The high school sports season wrapped up on Saturday so let’s take a look at how everybody fared this season.
There was one team state titles this year, brought home by the Northwest Christian girls cross country team, which shouldn’t be a surprise considering they’ve won eight straight 2B titles. A few teams took second place in state: Capital volleyball and boys soccer, Timberline girls bowling, Tumwater football and girls track and field.
For individuals, Brooke Feldmeier led the way with three state titles. The Ole Miss bound Tumwater senior won 2A titles in the 100 meter hurdles, the 200 meter dash and the 400 meter dash.
Four individuals won multiple state titles. Capital junior Ryan Chase won two 2A titles for long jump and triple jump, Northwest Christian senior Karen Bulger took 2B titles in javelin and shot put, River Ridge junior Dejuan Frye won the 400 meter dash and was part of the first place 4×100 meter relay team and Tumwater sophomore Peyton Russell took home titles in long jump and triple jump.
And area wrestlers didn’t fare too bad. Jake Grantham took home the 3A 220 pound weight class title for North Thurston, Rochester’s Lucas Eastman won a 1A title in the 152 pound class, Yelm’s Darren Harris won the 4A 120 pound class title and Tumwater’s Megan Johnson won the 155 pound girls title.
Below are all the league champions, teams that participated in state tournaments and individuals that placed 5th place or higher. State champions are in italics.

Evergreen 84, Lewis & Clark 75 – Recap
Saint Martin’s 68, Northwest 30 – Recap
With 4:14 left to play, Katie Anderson hit a three pointer to put Lewis & Clark up 71-68 over Evergreen at the CRC Gymnasium. But the Geoducks finished the game on a 16-4 run to upset the NCAA Division III’s 17th-ranked team, 84-75. The Geoducks shot 52.4% from the field and had five players score in double digits including Kiemba Pearson’s 17 points off of the bench.
Sadee Jones and Jessica Denmon scored 15 and 14 points respectively and Brittany Gray added 13 with eight rebounds. Sammi Clark went scoreless in the first half but chipped in 11 points in the final 20 minutes to go along with six assists.
Evergreen won their third game in a row and are 3-2 this season.

Saint Martin’s gave up just 30 points tonight, the least amount of points they have allowed since they jumped to NCAA Divison II, to waltz to a 68-30 win over Northwest University at Marcus Pavilion. The Eagles committed 32 personal fouls and the Saints made 24 of 37 free throws while Northwest shot just four free throws all evening.
The Saints hit eight three pointers, three each from Angela Gelhar and Jordyn Richardson, who scored 14 and 11 points respectively. Ciara Pedroni and Chelsea Haskey tallied 11 points each and Liz Mills added 10.
Northwest kept it close in the early going and led 10-9 with just eight minutes gone but were held scoreless over the next five minutes and the Saints went on a 27-5 run over a 12 minute span to close out the first half.
Just like Evergreen, Saint Martin’s has won three straight games and is 3-1 this season.
High school football
2A State Quarterfinals
Tumwater 45, White River 7
Tumwater trailed for the first time in the postseason when White River jumped out to a 7-0 lead and led by just seven at the half, but turned on the afterburners in the second half to heat up the frigid crowd and to roll past the Hornets, 45-7.
The T-Birds will likely travel to the Tri-Cities on Saturday next week to take on Prosser, who knocked off Mark Morris 45-22. The game is expected to be played at Lampson Stadium in Kennewick on Saturday afternoon.

College volleyball
Northwest Nazarene 3, Saint Martin’s 0 – Recap
Riddled by injuries, Saint Martin’s finished the season on a ten game losing streak with their straight sets loss to Northwest Nazarene. The Saints ended the season at 7-23 overall and 3-15 in GNAC play.
College volleyball
Central Washington 3, Saint Martin’s 0 (25-10, 28-26, 25-21) – Recap
Suffering from injuries and a ridiculous schedule that has had them play just once on their home court at Marcus Pavilion since October 12th, Saint Martin’s lost their ninth straight match, a straight sets sweep by Central Washington in Ellensburg.
Freshmen led the way for the Saints as Brook Good and Larissa Hamilton racked up 9 and 8 kills respectively and Jessica Riddle had 24 digs.
Stuck on seven wins this season, the Saints have one more chance on Saturday night at Northwest Nazarene to pick up win number eight and finish the season with their most wins since 2003.
Men’s basketball
Cal Baptist 86, Saint Martin’s 79 – Recap
Seattle U 100, Evergreen 59 – Recap
Concordia JV 88, SPSCC 78 – Box score
Riley Carel scored 22 points and Ryan Rogers added 21 but Saint Martin’s was unable to overcome a 24 point first half deficit and fell 86-79 in Riverside, California. The Saints are now 0-4 this season.
Division I Seattle University outrebounded Evergreen 68-28 and had 32 second chance points in their 100-59 win at Key Arena in Seattle. KJ Hong scored 17 points and Kwame Awadjie chipped in ten points for the Geoducks, who went just 5-for-23 from downtown and shot just 34% from the field.
SPSCC opened their season with an 88-78 loss to the Concordia University JV team at the SPSCC gym. Joseph Johnson hit seven three pointers and led the Clippers with 26 points and Austin Bonds scored 21 points and had six steals in the loss.
College volleyball
Montana State-Billings 3, Saint Martin’s 1 (25-18, 27-29, 25-21, 25-18) – Recap
Riddled by injuries and relegated to Capital High School for the third time in the past month because of other events taking place on their on campus home court, Saint Martin’s dropped their eighth straight match with a 3-1 loss to lowly Montana-State Billings.
Freshmen Brooke Good, Larissa Hamilton and Maddie Knect combined for 34 kills on the night and senior Cymbree Decosta, playing in her last game in the general vicinity of home, added 43 assists in the loss.

Capital and Tumwater head up to Steilacoom for the 2A tourney. The T-Birds get it going bright and early at 8:00 AM and the Cougars will follow them up on the same court at 9:45.

4A state tournament quarterfinals – Bracket
Olympia vs. Inglemoor – Ingersoll Stadium – 7:00 PM
Olympia pulled off a minor shocker (at least to me) when they dropped Edmonds-Woodway at Edmonds Stadium on Tuesday. They now get to host their quarterfinal match-up with Inglemoor at 7:00 PM.
Inglemoor pulled off a 1-0 win over Kentridge and improved to 12-2-3 this season. The Vikings have scored just 35 goals this season but have allowed just seven goals. They feature Oregon commit Abby Morrow at Midfield and Forward.
The winner of tonight’s game will move into the semis and will face either Skyline or Issaquah at Sunset Chev Stadium in Sumner at 8:00 PM next Friday.
High school football
1A State Tournament First Round – Bracket
Tenino vs. King’s – Tiger Stadium, Centralia – 7:00 PM
Tenino has been rolling winners of four straight games and six of their last seven after an 0-3 start. They knocked off White Salmon convincingly, 41-7, last week and now turn their sights on King’s.
The private school in Shoreline plays in the mixed 1A/2A Cascade Conference and played seven 2A schools this season including close losses to Lynden and Lakewood, their only two losses of the season. They get to tune up all season long against 2A teams and then drop down to battle 1A schools once the postseason rolls around. In the crossover game, they easily beat Eatonville 30-12.
ScoreCzar is picking King’s to win 27-10. You can hear a webcast of the game on the KELA website.
Despite another “home” game on Saturday night, tonight is the last game of the season at Marcus Pavilion for the Saint Martin’s volleyball team.
With the high school state tournament taking over the Pavilion this weekend, the Saints will be sent across town to Capital High School on Saturday so tonight is Senior Night for two Saints, Kristin Okamura and Cymbree Decosta.
The Saints are 7-19 this season and a win tonight would give them their most wins since 1999.
Women’s basketball
Saint Martin’s 74, Nortre Dame de Namur 56 – Recap
Liz Mills scored 20 points and hauled in 12 rebounds and Saint Martin’s picked up their first regular season win of the season with a 74-56 win over Notre Dame de Namur in Monmouth, Oregon. Brooke Paulson also racked up a double-double with 19 points and 10 boards and Chelsea Haskey added 15.

Idaho State 99, Evergreen 62 – Recap
Chaminade 82, Saint Martin’s 63
Men’s soccer
Northwest Christian 1, Evergreen 0 – Recap
Saint Martin’s 4, Seattle Pacific 1 – Recap
Picked to finish second in the Cascade Conference this season, the Evergreen men’s soccer team missed the playoffs when they fell to last place Northwest Christian 1-0 in Eugene. The loss, combined with a College of Idaho win earlier in the day dropped the Geoducks to fifth place in the CCC.
The Saint Martin’s men’s soccer season came to an end with a 4-1 loss to Seattle Pacific. The Saints finished their 2013 campaign at 5-11-2.
