Once again SPSCC played just six players – five played more than 39 minutes – but fought and stayed with a full squad only to run out of gas at the end in a 70-62 loss to Centralia at the SPSCC Gym. Brian Tyson scored 18 points with eight rebounds to lead the Clippers in the loss.
Tyson, Keegan Liebelt and Brandon McGurkin each played 40 minutes and Jonathan Roberts got just a seven second break. Slanblaytee Kaye played 39 1/2 minutes but fouled out late in the game. Brandon Logan replaced him and played 39 seconds total. Roberts scored 14 points and Kaye scored 17 with eight boards and seven assists a game after his triple-double against Grays Harbor.
The Clippers fell to 1-5 in the NWAACC West and 1-13 overall. Centralia improved to 2-11.

LaKeisha Anger scored 15 points with 13 rebounds and Maria Jesse and Wakeena De La Cruz each chipped in 14 points but Centralia hit seven 3-pointers in the second half to erase a five point halftime deficit and take home a 71-64 win.
Ashley Stancil added 13 points for the Clippers in the loss. Karina Gee scored 25 points on 7-of-10 shooting from behind the arc for the Trailblazers.
The Clippers fell to 2-4 in the NWAACC West and 3-12 overall.

The crosstown Lacey rivalry heats up tonight when Timberline travels to North Thurston for a 3A Narrows League matchup. Though the two teams seem like they are on different levels, the two teams are actually separated by just a half game in the league standings and are fighting for third or fourth place in league.
Olympia and Central Kitsap each have just one 4A Narrows League win and are both coming off of games against Bellarmine. Last Wednesday, Central Kitsap picked up their first win of the league season with a 52-41 win over the Lions while the Bears got spanked by the Lions 54-35 on Friday.

North Thurston heads to Mullen Road to take on Timberline tonight with just a half game separating the two teams in the 3A Narrows League standings. The Blazers are 3-1 and tied with Lincoln for second place while the Rams are just behind them at 3-2.

The South Puget Sound basketball teams continue their busy week when they host Centralia in doubleheader action at the SPSCC Gym.
The South Puget Sound women knocked off Grays Harbor on Monday night to move to 2-3 in the NWAACC West thanks to double-digit scoring from four Clippers. Meanwhile, the Centralia women come into the game at 3-1 in the NWAACC West and are coming off of their first league loss, a 55-48 defeat at Highline on Monday.
It has been a struggle for both the SPSCC and Centralia men this season with just two wins between the two programs. The Clippers are 1-4 in the NWAACC West while Centralia is 1-3. Northwest Christian’s Zach Carras is on the Centralia roster, but has played in only five games and not since January 2nd. He is averaging 18 points in the games that he played.

It has been a struggle for the South Puget Sound basketball teams this season with just three wins between the two programs, but the women are much improved over the last couple seasons and the men have played hard despite defections and injuries and both teams have a good chance at wins tonight when they host Grays Harbor in doubleheader action beginning at 6:00 PM.
The SPSCC women are just 2-11 this season but have been competitive and have found a couple of solid players. Maria Jesse, a transfer from Saint Martin’s, leads the Clippers with 14.2 points per game and pulls down 7.2 rebounds per game including a 23 point, 16 rebound outburst in a win over Green River last Saturday. Sofia Guerra, a 2010 graduate of College Park High School in Pleasant Hills, California, is chipping in 12.2 points per game in her freshman season and Tumwater’s LaKeisha Anger is putting up 12 points and eight rebounds per game.
The men have just one win to their credit this season and head coach Aaron Landon is having to deal with a lot of adversity in his first season in Olympia. The Clippers lost guard Austin Bonds for the season when he broke his wrist on Saturday night. Unfortunately, the Clippers have played just seven players over their last three games and without Bonds, they might be limited to just six players tonight. Brian Tyson leads the Clippers with 15 points per game.
The women and men face Grays Harbor programs that haven’t fared much better this season. The Chokers are a combined 0-6 in the NWAACC West this season.

A night after nearly knocking off the #6 team in the nation, Evergreen played their best game of the season and notched their first Cascade Conference win and snapped a 12 game losing streak with a 90-87 victory over Oregon Tech at the CRC Gymnasium. Marc Taylor’s jumper with 3:54 left broke a 76-76 tie and put the Geoducks up for good.
Dre Taylor dropped 20 points on the Hustlin’ Owls and Frankie Johnson added 19 points with eight assists in the win. Taylor finished with a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds and Kyle Calhoun chipped in 16 points as the starting lineup scored 76 of the Geoducks’ 90 points.
OIT head coach Danny Miles was going for his 999th career win but will have to wait for at least two weeks before he can collect win #1000.

Saint Martin’s shot 50% in the first half including 11 three-pointers and built a 14 point lead at the half. But the second half belonged to Northwest Nazarene as they shot 63% with eight three-pointers and took an 80-76 win on their home court in Nampa.
Ryan Rogers scored 22 points for the Saints and Isaac Bianchini set a new career high for the second game in a row with 18 points, 15 of those in the first half. Evan Coulter and Riley Carel each chipped in 13 points.

Kaye scored a game high 27 points with seven rebounds and Tyson chipped in 15 points and nine boards. The Clippers scored just 15 points in the first half on 21% shooting.

Angela Gelhar went off for 36 points including six of Saint Martin’s 10 three-pointers to lead the Saints to an 85-78 bounce back win at Alaska-Anchorage. Gelhar’s 36 points were the most by a Saint since 2010 and it was their first win in Anchorage since 2006. With the win, SMU moved to 4-1 in the GNAC and took back first place from the Seawolves, who fell to 4-2.
Ciara Pedroni, Jordyn Richardson and Chelsea Haskey each scored in double-digits with 12, 11 and 10 points respectively for the Saints. Jori Skorpik, starting her second game in a row, dished out seven assists.

Oregon Tech’s Karly Leveque hit a jumper with two seconds left in the second half to tie the game at 70, McKensey Peters made 1-of-2 free throws with 29 seconds left in the first overtime to send it to a second OT but Evergreen ran out of steam in double overtime and dropped a 93-80 decision to the Hustlin’ Owls at the CRC Gymnasium.
Sammi Clark scored 24 points for the Geoducks and Brittany Gray racked up 19 points and a game high 13 rebounds in the loss. Evergreen fell to 2-5 in the CCC while 20th ranked OIT moved to 5-3 in conference and 17-3 overall.

SPSCC and Tacoma each hit 21 field goals including three 3-pointers but the Clippers committed 23 personal fouls and the Titans hit nine more free throws accounting for the nine point difference in the final, a 67-58 TCC win. LaKeisha Anger notched a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds and Maria Jesse added 11 points in the loss.

Evergreen played host to Southern Oregon last night and dropped a pair of Cascade Conference games to the Raiders.
The women suffered through a cold first half and despite scoring 50 points in the second half, they were unable to get closer than eight points in an 86-72 loss. The men came close taking the #6 NAIA team in the nation down to the final minute before they couldn’t get anything to fall and dropped an 80-76 decision.

The 20th ranked team in the nation comes to the CRC Gym tonight when the Geoducks host Oregon Tech. The Owls are 16-3 this season but all of those losses have come in Cascade Conference play and they are 4-3 in conference after dropping one to Northwest last night in Kirkland. Evergreen sits at 2-4 the CCC after last night’s loss to Southern Oregon. Tumwater grad Carly McIsaac has played in 12 games for the Hustlin’ Owls and averages 1.4 points per game.

Oregon Tech’s head coach Danny Miles will go for win #999 tonight at the CRC Gymnasium against the Geoducks, who nearly upset the #6 team in the nation, Southern Oregon, last night. Miles had a chance to hit 1000 career wins at Evergreen, but the Hustlin’ Owls lost a double overtime thriller to Northwest last night in Kirkland. Oregon Tech is 4-2 in the CCC and 11-7 overall while the Geoducks are winless in conference and have lost 12 straight games.

Evergreen came back from a 12 point deficit with 10:54 left and a Dre Taylor layup at the 2:17 mark gave the Geoducks a four point lead, 74-70. But two straight threes by David Sturner and Tim Weber put Southern Oregon up by two points, 76-74, with 38 second left and other than a buzzer beater with the game already wrapped up, the #6 Raiders held the Geoducks scoreless over the last two minutes to hold on for an 80-76 win at the CRC Gymnasium.
Taylor led the Geoducks with 16 points while Marc Taylor and Kyle Calhoun each added 15 points. Evergreen hit 10 three pointers including three from Kalhoun and Frankie Johnson, who finished with 11 points and nine assists.
Eric Thompson scored 26 points in the first half for the Raiders, leading them to a seven point lead at the break. Thompson finished with 38 points on 12-of-20 shooting including 6-0f-9 from behind the arc. David Sturner chipped in a double-double with 13 points and 10 boards.
Evergreen remains winless in the Cascade Conference and have lost 12 straight after winning their opener in Canada. The #6 ranked Raiders move to 4-2 in the CCC and 16-3 overall.

Sammi Clark scored 16 points and Jessica Denmon added 15 but after a cold first half, Evergreen was unable to get to within eight points the rest of the way and fell to Southern Oregon 86-72.
Rainier grad Kristin Schoenherr scored 12 points in the first half and finished with 16 points and seven rebounds and Allison Gida led the Raiders with 17 points and 15 rebounds. The Raiders shot 60 percent in the second half as the two teams combined to scored 97 points over the final 20 minutes.
Evergreen falls to 2-4 in the CCC and under .500 overall at 6-7. Southern Oregon distanced themselves from the Geoducks moving to 4-3 in conference at 15-4 this season.

Evergreen vs. Southern Oregon – CRC Gym – 5:30 PM
A couple of tough tests for the Evergreen basketball teams when Southern Oregon comes rolling into town this evening, starting with the women at 5:30 PM. The Geoducks are in seventh place at 2-3 in the Cascade Conference and 6-6 overall. They sit a half game back of Southern Oregon, who are 3-3 in conference play but 14-4 overall.
The Raiders are led by a pair of local athletes, Elma’s Carly Meister (15.2 points per game and 8.3 boards per game) and Rainier’s Kristin Schoenherr (14.4 ppg, 5.4 rpg) with six players scoring in double digits. They score over 87 points per game.

Evergreen vs. Southern Oregon – CRC Gymnasium – 7:30 PM
The 1-10 Evergreen men are looking for their first conference win of the season but will have to face the sixth ranked NAIA team in the nation in Southern Oregon tonight. Anything is possible given the amount of three pointers that the Geoducks will hoist but the Raiders are second in the conference in scoring and third in scoring defense while Evergreen is last in both categories.

Mark McLaughlin scored 27 points and Kevin Davis racked up a double-double with 13 points and 13 boards.

Despite a six game winning streak, Saint Martin’s changed their starting lineup and struggled mightily in Fairbanks dropping their first GNAC game, 78-64, to Alaska. A 26-6 run in the first half sealed the deal early and the Nanooks led by as many as 27 in the second half.
Angela Gelhar scored 18 points – 10 from the free throw line for the Saints while Jordan Wilson did most of the damage for Alaska scoring 21 points with 14 rebounds.

Pierce shot just 39% for the game but attempted 25 more shots than SPSCC. LaKeisha Anger recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds in the loss.
