Saint Martin’s 64, Central Washington 49 – Box score
Team 1st 2nd Final
Central Washington (0-1 GNAC, 3-3 overall) 19 30 49
Saint Martin’s (1-0 GNAC, 4-3 overall) 26 38 64
SMU leader: Chelsea Haskey – 21 points, 10 boards

After shooting just 26% in the first half, the Saints came out of the locker room red hot and went on a 17-3 run over the first six minutes of the second half and never looked back, knocking off Central Wasington in the GNAC opener, 64-49, at Marcus Pavilion.

Chelsea Haskey scored 21 points and pulled down 10 rebounds and Angela Gelhar added 12 points but it was Krista Stabler’s two straight three point plays that sparked the Saints run early in the second half.

Stabler drove down the right side of the lane on two straight possessions and hit the shot after being hammered by Central’s India Matheson and Melanie Valdez. The sophomore hit both and-one free throws and the Saints built a lead that would never shrink below 12 points the rest of the way.

The Saints scored 24 points off of 25 turnovers and held the GNAC’s leading scorer, Jessica VanDyke, to 16 points, five points off of her average over the first six games. VanDyke committed two fouls in the first four minutes and sat for a long spell in the first half. She played just 23 minutes and was on the Wildcats bench for the final five minutes of the game.

The Saints move to 1-0 in the GNAC and 4-3 overall while Central falls to 0-1 in conference and 3-3 overall.
