Williamson’s 13th inning walk-off single gives Linx PSCL title
After dominating the Puget Sound Collegiate League all season, the West Olympia Linx wouldn’t be denied the title.
Down 1-0 in the bottom of the ninth, an overthrow on a Linx stolen base attempt tied the score and sent the championship game into extra innings where Ashton Williamson’s (Skagit Valley) bases loaded, two out single in the bottom of the 13th inning gave the Linx a 2-1 win over the Tumwater Brewers.
It looked like the Brewers would get the early jump on the heavily favored Linx. Josh DeVaughn (Olympic College) got on to lead off the game, stole second base and took third on an error on the throw. Two batters later, DeVaughn was thrown out at the plate trying to score on a sharply hit ground ball and the Brewers wouldn’t threaten again for six more innings.
Both starters, Reilly Fairchild (Skagit Valley) and Suguru Homma (Edmonds College), frustrated hitters all night long. But it was the Linx’s Fairchild that faltered first allowing a bases loaded single to Spencer Dodd (Saint Martin’s) in the seventh inning to give the Brewers a 1-0 lead that would last until the bottom of the ninth.
The Linx tied the game in the ninth and both teams would go down easily in the 10th, 11th and 12th innings behind solid relief work from the Linx’s Ryan Kuhn (Northwest Nazarene) and the Brewers’ Jeff Walton (UPS). The Brewers did threaten in the top of the 13th inning putting men on first and second with one out. But West Olympia’s Kegan Duz-Aguilar (Centralia College) came in and got the next two Brewers to foul out to end the Tumwater threat.
In the bottom of the 13th, Zack Larsen (Saint Martin’s) reached base on an error and after an out and a single that put runners on the corners, Nick Schultz (Centralia College) was intentionally walked to load the bases. The Brewers got the second out on a force at the plate but Williamson went the other way and placed a hit in the hole in right center and Larsen scored the game winning run giving the Linx the PSCL championship.
The Linx finished the season with 28 wins and just three losses.

Leif Hansen and Joey Knight hit back-to-back home runs in the fifth inning to break a 3-3 tie and Elliot Loague shut Union down the rest of the way to give Olympia a 7-3 win and a state tournament berth. Loague struck out eight over seven innings giving up just one run, a solo shot in the top of the 5th inning, after a rocky first inning at Heritage Park in Puyallup.
Union put two runs on the board right away in the first inning but the Bears answered right back in the bottom of the inning. Leo Valenti drew a leadoff walk and Cameron Frost quickly tripled to drive in Valenti. After Gabe Padukiewicz walked, Michael Fairchild hit a sacrifice fly that brought in Frost. Padukiewicz would score on an error by the Union shortstop to give the Bears a 3-2 after the first inning.
The Bears loaded the bases the next two innings but couldn’t push across a run in the either frame. In the second, Michael Fairchild hit a dribbler that died in front of the plate. Union catcher Jack Bauer and the umpire were the only ones that didn’t expect the play to be called a foul ball. Bauer picked it up, stepped on home and threw to first to end the inning with a double play.
In the third, Union starter Jarred Dean got two quick outs but walked three straight Bears to load the bases. But Dean came back to strikeout Valenti on a 3-2 pitch to end the inning without any damage. The two teams went 1-2-3 in the fourth inning and Union went to the fifth trailing 3-2.
Union tied the game at three in the top of the fifth inning with Seaver Whalen’s solo shot but the tie was short lived. Leif Hansen parked one over the fence in left center and Joey Knight followed him by putting a ball in nearly the same spot to give the Bears a 5-3 lead after five innings.
Oly added two more runs in the sixth and Loague shutout the Bears in the seventh to earn the complete game and give the Bears the 7-3 win and keep their season alive.
With the win, the Bears qualify for the state tournament and will play for seeding on Saturday when they face Kentridge at Heritage Park in Puyallup at 1:00 PM.

Nikki Schroeder went 2-for-3 and drove in two runs and Erin Roloff’s two run double in the third inning led Olympia to a 4-0 win over Yelm on Senior Day at Stevens Field.
Maddy Stensby struck out nine Tornados over seven innings and worked out of a bases loaded jam in the top of the sixth inning and had two runners on in the seventh before getting the final out on a comebacker to the mound.
The Bears move to 10-2 in the 4A Narrows League, a half game ahead of South Kitsap for first place. The Wolves hold the tiebreaker between the two teams and would win the regular season title with a win against winless Stadium on Friday.

Dominique Greeno’s grand slam in the third inning opened up the scoring for North Thurston and a seven run seventh inning gave the Rams the regular season sweep of Timberline with a 12-6 win on the Blazers’ home field. Both teams sit at 9-2 in the 3A Narrows League with one game to play and North Thurston holding the tiebreaker.
After Greeno’s slam gave North Thurston a 4-0 lead, Timberline quickly put two runs on the board in the bottom of the third. Each team added a run in the fourth inning, including Molly Emmons’ solo shot for the Blazers, and held each other scoreless in the fifth and sixth innings.
But in the seventh, the Blazers’ defense let them down and the Rams capitalized stringing together seven runs to take a commanding 12-3 lead. Timberline was able to put three runs on the board in the final frame but it was too little too late and they will now need to knock off Shelton and hope Mount Tahoma can upset North Thurston to take the regular season title.
Greeno added two more doubles and went 3-for-4 with a home run and four RBI and Dejah Hickman had three hits including a home run and two RBI for the Rams. Ciera Davis went the distance on the mound and picked up the win.
Ellie Jones had three hits, drove in a pair of runs and scored twice for the Blazers and Makenzie Sylvester also added three hits and two runs scored in the loss.

Wilson took a 6-5 lead into the bottom of the seventh inning but North Thurston pushed across two runs in the final frame to knock off Wilson, 7-6, to claim first place in the 3A Narrows League.
After North Thurston tied the score at six all in the seventh, Saralyn Campbell singled to right field. The throw home appeared to beat North Thurston’s Dejah Hickman by a few steps but the ump called her safe and set off a wild celebration on the home side and a furious argument by the visitors.
Once the dust settled, North Thurston found themselves on top of the league standings at 7-1, a half game ahead of Timberline (6-1) and a full game ahead of Wilson, who fell to 6-2 with the loss.
