Wednesday scoreboard: Bears, Blazers blank conference foes; Rams tops Blazers in epic extra inning affair

Olympia moved to 6-0 in the 4A Narrows League with a 2-0 win over Gig Harbor. Michael Fairchild went six shutout innings striking out seven and Elliott Loague went 2-for-3, drove in a run and scored a run for the Bears.
Matt Mercer went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI and picked up the win on the mound as Timberline allowed just three hits in their 12-0 win over Foss. Cobi Beal had three hits and drove in three runs for the Blazers who move to 5-0 in the 3A Narrows League. UPDATE: The Timberline Facebook page says that Matt Mercer threw a no-hitter against Foss.

Timberline put seven runs on the board in the first two innings to take a 7-0 lead but North Thurston added three runs in the third and continued to chip away at the lead until they tied the game at seven in the bottom of the seventh inning.
The Blazers scored first in extra innings getting a run in the ninth but the Rams answered back with a run of their own to keep the game going. The deadlock continued until Brittany Sebesta drove in the game winning run in the 11th inning giving North Thurston a 9-8 come from behind win.
The Blazers and Rams are now tied for first place in the 3A Narrows League with Wilson at 4-1. The two teams meet again on April 29th at Timberline.

It took 30 minutes, but the Capital boys soccer team finally broke through on a Benedict Thurnher goal and held on for a 1-0 win over Tumwater at Tumwater Stadium. The win moved the Cougars to 5-2 in the 2A Evergreen Conference while the T-Birds fell to 3-3.

Tumwater started out slow and a 4-0 defeat at the hands of Capital on March 14th stung. But the T-Birds have strung together a pair of wins over Centralia and Black Hills and now sit in fourth place, half a game behind the Cougars and Tigers. Meanwhile, Capital have Aberdeen their first loss of the season on Saturday night with a 3-2 overtime win.

Saint Martin’s moved to 5-0 at the Tournament of Champions in Turlock, California with a 5-1 win over CSU-Monterey Bay, a 7-6 extra innings win over Academy of Art and a 5-1 win over Chico State. The Saints are now 25-10 on the season and will take on Chaminade at 1:00 PM in the semifinals.

Today (4/6): Rugby, soccer in the rain
The hearty souls that don’t play ball and stick games will be out today and tonight in this awesome weather starting first with some rugby at noon and continuing with 2A EvCo soccer this evening.
The Budd Bay Buffaloes men’s rugby team isn’t afraid of a little rain. They will take on the Seattle Quake at Rainier Vista beginning at noon. It should be a muddy good time.
In boys soccer action, the first place Aberdeen Bobcats come to town to take on third place Capital at Ingersoll Stadium. The Bobcats are 5-0 in conference and undefeated overall while the Cougars sit at 3-2 in EvCo play. First kick is set for 7:00 PM.
And the Pioneer Cup also kicks off at 7:00 PM at Tumwater Stadium. Tumwater comes into the game struggling to regain their form from last season and sit at 2-2 in conference. Black Hills has just plain struggled and are 0-4 and in last place.
Thursday scoreboard: Bearcats drop Cougars in PKs

WF West 2, Capital 1 (WF West wins shootout 5-4)
Capital’s Nick Boatright scored the equalizer in the second half and the Cougars and WF West ended regulation tied 1-1. After two scoreless overtime periods, the Bearcats won the shootout 5-4 for their second conference win of the season. Capital falls to 3-2.
Today (4/4): EvCo Spring break is over, so is the sunshine
The Evergreen Conference took the first half of this week off for Spring break but resumes play this afternoon, just in time for the rain. With light rain expected all day, baseball and softball are questionable, so we’ll start off with the sure thing tonight, boys soccer… and the lone sure thing, boys soccer, has been cancelled and rescheduled for 4/27. Of course.

Christina Demar’s three run home run in the fifth inning blew game one open giving Saint Martin’s a 6-2 lead and the Saints held on to knock off Concordia 6-4 in a non-conference contest. Sam Munger picked up her ninth win of the season giving up just two earned runs over seven innings.
Aubree Pocklington homered in a four run second inning and scored the eventual game winning run on a Lacey McGladrey sacrifice fly to give the Saints the 5-4 game two win and sweep of the NAIA #24 ranked Cavaliers. Taylor Bakos had an off day in the circle giving up four earned runs in two innings but Kaylee Lawson pitched five scoreless innings in relief to pick up her first win of the season.

Saint Martin’s pounded out 18 hits in game one and took a 7-1 lead in game two but couldn’t come away with a win in either game dropping two 8-7 decisions to Northwest Nazarene in Nampa, Idaho. The Crusaders scored a combined 12 runs in the seventh inning of the two games. They posted five runs in the nine inning first game to erase a 6-2 deficit they wouldn’t relinquish. And in the seven inning game two, the Saints surrendered seven runs in the seventh including a two run walk off homer by Tate Glasgow.
Chandler Tracy hit a home run in each game and went 3-for-8 with five RBI in the doubleheader but the Saints dropped to 3-25 and 1-13 in GNAC play.
River Ridge alum Jon Matos went 3-for-8 with three runs scored and three RBI in the pair of Crusaders wins.

After playing to a 1-1 halftime tie, Kile Lenherr scored the eventual game winner early in the second half and Tumwater knocked off Centralia 4-1 at Tumwater Stadium. Connor Sigmon scored twice for the T-Birds, the first an equalizer in the first half and another to extend their lead to 3-1 in the second half as the T-Birds scored four goals unanswered after Centralia opened the scoring. Tumwater moved to 2-2 in the 2A EvCo while Centralia dropped their first game of the conference season.

North Thurston scored 14 runs in the top of the first inning including a Dominique Greeno grand slam and the Rams didn’t allow a hit over five innings in their 14-0 win over Lincoln in Tacoma. Greeno drove in seven runs in total as the Rams pounded out 19 hits. Annie Koehler struck out six Abes in the win.

Matty Thomas gave up just one hit and struck out 12 and Northwest Christian whomped Mary M Knight 17-1 in Matlock.
