Saint Martin’s 60, UPS 56 – Recap from SMUSaints.com
Northwest Indian College 54, SPSCC 36

Brooke Paulson hit a free throw to tie the game at 49 with 3.5 seconds left in regulation and a pair of three pointers from Jori Skorpik and Angela Gelhar in overtime helped Saint Martin’s secure a 60-56 win over UPS at Marcus Pavilion.

Chelsea Haskey led the way for the Saints with 18 points and 15 rebounds and Mackenzie Taylor added 14 points and 14 boards. Brooke Paulson went just 2-for-16 from the field but her seven free throws helped the Saints down the stretch and gave her 11 points on the game. Skorpik hit two big three pointers, the first at the end of the first half to give the Saints a 29-28 lead going into the locker room and another in overtime and finished with eight points and pulled down 10 rebounds.

Kelsey McKinnis led the Loggers with 17 points, just under her season average of 18.3, as the Saints stout defense limited her touches throughout the game. But following a timeout, McKinnis received the inbounds pass and took it straight to the basket to put the Loggers up 49-48 with 6.8 seconds to play.

The Saints move to 7-5 overall this season and are now 5-0 at home.

Boy’s basketball

Northwest Christian vs. South Bend – Northwest Christian HS – 7:00 PM
Tumwater @ Capital – Capital HS – 7:30 PM
Black Hills vs. Aberdeen – Black Hills HS – 7:30 PM

The 2A Evergreen Conference kicks off the regular season tonight with a pair of games locally.

Tumwater sits at 0-2 on the season after falling to White River in their opener and Enumclaw on Friday night. They will have a full roster of players after the football team’s state final run when they travel to Capital to take on the 3-2 Cougars. Capital dropped their opener to Auburn-Riverside and lost to a good Olympia team but has since knocked off White River and trounced Peninsula. Keenan Williams leads the Cougs scoring 16.5 points per game in four reported games.

Black Hills hosts Aberdeen in their conference opener. The Wolves are 2-3 overall this season picking up wins over Klahowya and Chief Leschi. Jacob Burgess scored a career high 30 points against Chief Leschi. But the Wolves have struggled mightily in their losses. They have fallen to a struggling Shelton squad, 41-35, and were beaten soundly by Skyline (77-27) and Battle Ground (70-40). Aberdeen comes into the game at 1-4.

Girl’s basketball

River Ridge vs. WF West – River Ridge HS – 7:30 PM

The best player in the region comes to town tonight, luckily for River Ridge, she’ll do her damage in the JV game. Nike McClure, a junior who is already committed to Washington State, transferred from Tenino to WF West in the offseason but didn’t actually move so she was ruled ineligible to play varsity basketball this year. Unfortunately, that means we are deprived of seeing McClure face this talented Hawks team that is 3-0 overall this season.
