Today (8/29): Saints face PLU in volleyball opener

20120829-111512.jpg
The Saint Martin’s volleyball team gets their season underway tonight with a scrimmage against PLU at Marcus Pavilion.

The Saints were picked to finish eighth in the GNAC this season after finishing seventh last season with a 5-13 league record and a 7-18 overall record. The Saints are led by two seniors, middle blockers Katy Ferguson and Teilissa Tua and freshman-of-the-year outside hitter and Capital graduate Kristyn Ross.

This is an extremely young Saints squad with 13 of 17 roster spots taken up by freshmen or sophomores including Northwest Christian’s Kelsey Minton, Tumwater’s Nicole Grisham, North Thurston’s Julia Wabinga and River Ridge’s Halee Hernandez.

Game time tonight at Marcus Pavilion is at 6:00 PM.

Yelm 2, Timberline 1
Bellarmine 6, Olympia 0

Tumwater’s 3:0 win moves them into the District IV championship game against Mark Morris on Thursday night at Tumwater Stadium. North Thurston 5, RA Long 1
Tahoma 8, Olympia 7
W.F. West 5, Tumwater 0
Decatur 5, Capital 2

Olympia dropped a shocker to Tahoma and now faces a loser-out game tomorrow. Tumwater’s loss also means they face a loser-out game tomorrow. But Capital and Northwest Christian were not so lucky, their seasons ended on Tuesday.

Also today (5/8): District baseball all over the place

The high school baseball post season really gets going this afternoon…

The 17-1, 4A Narrows League champion Olympia Bears faces Tahoma at Curtis High School.  Tahoma comes into the game at 13-6 overall. The winner of the game gets a spot in the state regional.

In the 3A west central/bi-district tournament, Capital plays a loser-out game against Decatur at 7:00 PM at Heidelberg Park in Tacoma.  Decatur finished the regular season at just 3-16 but won two straight elimination games to make it to districts.

North Thurston gets a home game in the first round of the 2A District IV playoffs when they face RA Long. The Rams were 12-6 this season while RA Long comes into the game at 6-11. First pitch is at 4:30 PM.

Tumwater barely made the district tournament and is rewarded with a first round game at #1 seed W.F. West. The Bearcats are 18-1 this season. First pitch is at 4:30 PM and the game can be heard on the Eli Sports Network.

And after a 12-1 loss to Toutle Lake yesterday, Northwest Christian continues 2B District IV playoffs with a loser-out game against Naselle, who lost 7-1 to Morton-White Pass yesterday. The Navigators and Naselle split their season series. Naselle won 10-2 in Lacey on March 22nd while the Navs won 6-5 in Naselle on April 23rd.  Game time is at 5:30 PM.
