Rams soccer coach Knudson resigns
North Thurston’s Chris Knudson has resigned from his position as the Rams’ head boys soccer coach joining Timberline’s John Hayes as the second North Thurston School District coach to depart in this off season.
In five seasons at his alma mater, Knudson took the Rams from a 2-12 season in 2008 to the state quarterfinals in 2011 going 12-5-1 before losing to eventual state runners-up Fife 1-0 in the quarters.
This season, the Rams pulled an upset in the first round of districts knocking off number one seed Hockinson 3-0 but lost their final two district games to Mark Morris and Aberdeen and finished the season 9-8-1.
Knudson, who is part owner of the Lacey and Olympia Casa Mia restaurants, is leaving the program due to time constraints. His wife is expecting their first child in November.

Saturday scoreboard: T-Birds to semis; Rams, Blazers seasons end
Boys soccer
Tumwater 3, Franklin Pierce 0 – More from The Olympian
After not registering even one shot on goal in the first half, Bradley Saner opened the scoring in the 44th minute and Tumwater never looked back in their 3:1 win over Franklin Pierce in the quarterfinals of the 2A state tournament. The T-Birds earned their first trip to the semifinals and will play Fife on Friday, May 25th at Sunset Chevy Stadium in Sumner.
Connor Sigmon scored what proved to be the game winner in the 52nd minute. Franklin Pierce cut the lead to just one in the 59th minute on a Richard Laducer goal but Sigmon closed the door with an insurance goal in the 60th minute and the undefeated season rolls along.
High school baseball
Timberline 5, West Seattle 0
Eastside Catholic 5, Timberline 1
Rick Ahlf went 3-for-4 and Matt Mercer got the win in Timberline’s 5-0 win over West Seattle in the opening round of the 3A state playoffs. The win setup a quarterfinals matchup with Eastside Catholic but the Blazers were unable to hold off the Crusaders and were bumped from the tournament with a 5-1 loss.
North Thurston 4, Fife 1
Sumner 5, North Thurston 4
North Thurston’s Tyler Ridgeway pitched a three hit complete game and went 2-for-3 with two runs to knock off Fife in the first round of the 2A state tournament at Bearcat Stadium in Chehalis. The two runs that the Rams scored in the first inning proved to be enough to move them into the next round against Sumner.
In the quarterfinals, the Rams took a 3-0 lead in the fourth inning but Sumner answered right back with four runs in the fifth inning and added another in the seventh. Down 5-3, North Thurston scored a run in the bottom half of the inning but Spencer Dorsey was thrown out at the plate trying to score on a passed ball and the Rams season came to a heartbreaking end.
High school softball
Prairie 6, Capital 0
Capital was shutout twice in districts and their season came to an end with an 8-10 record.
