NCAA Tournament West Regional
Humboldt State 6, Saint Martin’s 5
Saint Martin’s 8, Grand Canyon 5 – Recap from SMUSaints.com
In game one of the NCAA Division II West Regional in Arcata, California today, Saint Martin’s out homered heavy home run hitting Humboldt State on their home field but it wasn’t enough and the Saints fell to the Lumberjacks, 6-5. The loss was the first for the Saints in the double-elimination tournament and sent them to an elimination game later in the day.
Humboldt State opened the scoring right away putting two runs on the board in the bottom of the first inning. But the Saints answered back, first with a two run home run from Dani Wall in the top of the second and briefly took a 3-2 lead when Joslyn Eugenio drove in Lacey McGladrey in the third.
The ‘Jacks answered with three straight runs in the third and fourth innings including Dani Randall’s homer in the third and what proved to be the game winning run on a Courtney Hiatt single in the fourth.
Taviah Jenkins hit a two run shot in the sixth inning to cut the score to one run and Taylor Bakos singled and advanced to second on an error with no outs. Aubree Pocklington fouled out and Madi Davis struck out for the first two outs of the inning. Bakos was then thrown out on the plate trying to score from second on a single to left by McGladrey. The Saints stranded a runner at second in the seventh inning and Humboldt State held on to win 6-5.
In game two, Grand Canyon got a rematch with the Saints after eliminating UC-San Diego in the first game of the consolation bracket in the morning.
Facing elimination, Saint Martin’s got it going quickly scoring twice in the first inning on a Sam Munger single and a Wall ground out. In the second, Pocklington doubled to drive in Bakos and the Saints took a 3-0 lead.
The ‘Lopes would answer back in a big way with four runs in an error filled top of the third inning. But Jenkins hit her second home run of the day in the bottom half of the inning, a two run shot that put the Saints back on top, 5-3. McGladrey’s single in the fourth drove in Pocklington to put the Saints up 6-4.
Grand Canyon got a run back in the fifth but again Jenkins went deep in the bottom of the fifth, her third of the day, to give the Saints an 8-5 lead and they would hold on to end the ‘Lopes season and advance to play Humboldt State on Sunday at noon. The Saints will have to win two straight games against the ‘Jacks to advance to the Super Regionals.

2A District IV tournament (loser-out)
Capital 1, River Ridge 0
Capital barely kept their season alive tonight with a 1-0 win over River Ridge at Ingersoll Stadium. The Cougars will travel to Aberdeen on Thursday for another loser-out game.
Narrows League regular season
Mount Tahoma 2, North Thurston 1
Gig Harbor 6, Timberline 0
Bellarmine 5, Olympia 0
North Thurston’s Kenny Heo scored a late goal but Mount Tahoma held on for a 2-1 win at South Sound Stadium. The Rams’ loss, combined with Shelton’s 3-3 tie with Wilson, means that the top four teams in the 3A Narrows League finished with seven wins. Wilson finishes at 7-3-2 while Mount Tahoma, Shelton and North Thurston are all 7-4-1. Mount Tahoma swept North Thurston, while the Rams split with Shelton, and Shelton and Mount Tahoma split. More than likely, this means that the seeds break down like this for districts: #1 Wilson, #2 Mount Tahoma, #3 Shelton, #4 North Thurston. If that is the case, the Rams would play Bonney Lake in Auburn on Saturday night.
High school softball
Tumwater 15, River Ridge 0
Centralia 17, Capital 1
For the second straight day, Tumwater knocked off River Ridge 15-0. And for the second straight day, Kayleen Glasgo picked up the win in the circle and went 2-for-2 with two runs and two RBIs.
