Smith, Ubrun named EvCo softball MVPs
Tumwater softball’s Kierstin Smith was named Pitching MVP and Alyssa Ubrun was named Offensive MVP by the 2A Evergreen Conference. And while the state runners up took the two MVP trophies, state champion Mike Keen of W.F. West took home the coach of the year award.

Today (5/26): State softball, soccer, tennis continues
The Tumwater softball team continues their state tournament run this morning at Carlon Park in Selah with a semifinal game against Selah. The T-Birds breezed through the first two rounds beating Cheney 12-2 and Granite Falls 8-1. Selah was even better knocking off Fife 13-3 and Interlake 11-0. Selah is 24-2 this season. First pitch is at 10:00 AM.
The Tumwater soccer team may have had their undefeated season and state title hopes disappear last night with a 2-0 loss to Fife, but they can still take home third place in state by beating Archbishop Murphy at Sunset Chevy Stadium in Sumner. Game time is at noon.
In the state tennis tournament, Olympia’s Hunter Wood and John Stormans play in the semifinals against Alex Tsutsumoto and Andrew Choi of Newport. Both pairs have swept through the first two rounds winning two sets to none. Black Hills’ Julie Hansen is also still alive for a state championship. She plays Anna Lefebvre of Burlington-Edison in the semis this morning at the Nordstrom Tennis Center at the University of Washington.
And if you are looking for something to do close to Olympia, South Sound Speedway continues their racing season with mini stocks, hobby stocks, street stocks, legends and bump to pass racing. Qualifying is at 5:00 PM and racing starts at 6:30.

Tumwater’s undefeated run came to an end at the hands of the Fife Trojans. The T-Birds play for third place tomorrow at noon in Sumner.

High school softball
Tumwater 14, Black Hills 2
Tumwater 4, Aberdeen 2
RA Long 14, Black Hills 5
Tumwater beat Black Hills for the fourth time this season to move on to a winner-to-state game against Aberdeen.
The Wolves dropped into the consolation bracket and lost to RA Long, 14-5, ending their season with a 6-14 record.
Meanwhile, the T-Birds took a 3-0 lead in the fourth inning and held on for the 4-2 win over the Bobcats to secure their spot in the district title game, and, more importantly, a spot in the state tournament.
Today (5/17): 2A fastpitch districts
Tumwater and Black Hills face off in the opening game of the 2A District IV fastpitch playoffs this afternoon in Centralia. The T-Birds finished at 17-1 in the EvCo and are the #1 seed while the Wolves were 6-12 and were outscored 36-7 by Tumwater in their three meetings this season. Game time is at 4:00 PM at Fort Borst Park Field #2.
The winner moves on to a winner-to-state game against the winner of the Aberdeen/RA Long game while the loser faces a loser-out game against the loser of that game. Both second round games get underway at 6:00 PM at Borst Park.
