Cal Poly Pomona 6, Saint Martin’s 5 – Game recap from Cal Poly athletics

After being outscored 51-5 in the first three games of the season at Cal Poly Pomona, the Saints took a 5-0 lead into the sixth inning. But Tommy DeBoer allowed four runs in the sixth and Kaleb Wilson surrendered two runs in the bottom of the ninth including the game winning single by Joseph Eusebio that gave the Broncos the series sweep.

Sophomore Alex Bielaski went 2-for-4 with two runs scored for the Saints in the loss and went 3-for-10 in the series. Junior Bobby Twedt also had three hits in the series and freshman Chandler Tracey hit the only home run for the Saints.

The Saints travel to Chico State next weekend for another four game series.

Saint Martin’s alum Blake Poole had 14 points and 14 rebounds for BG Dorsten on Saturday in their 94-90 loss to Rheinland Versicherungen Hertener Löwen. Poole is averaging over 15 points and 13 rebounds for Dorsten of the Pro-B basketball league, the third tier of professional basketball in Germany. It was his 17th double-double in 20 games this season, which should come as no surprise if you ever watched him play for the Saints.

SMU baseball season preview

Coming off the best year in program history, head coach Ken Garland and the Saint Martin’s baseball team have made a lot of changes and are welcoming a lot of new faces to the program.

Two starting pitchers – seniors Tommy DeBoer and Nate O’Bryan – and their closer Kaleb Wilson return but the Saints will rely on a bunch of freshman to fill out the rest of the pitching staff. And in the field, five starters return but all of them will be playing new positions including second-team all-conference catcher Zach Leonard, who is moving to center field, and Bobby Twedt Jr., who was the second-team all-conference second baseman and will be moving to left field this season.

SMUSaints.com has the full preview. The Saints baseball team opens their season on Friday with a four game series at Cal-Poly Pomona.
