ConleyOlympia grad Adam Conley pitched a seven inning complete game shutout in game one of a doubleheader for the Jacksonville Suns on Sunday. The Miami Marlins second round pick out of Washington State in 2011 struck out four in the game and moved to 8-4 and lowered his ERA to 3.66 for the double-A Suns. Next up for Conley is the Southern League All-Star game in Jacksonville on Thursday. – Link

SPSCC men’s basketball added another Vancouver area player to their roster today. Aaron Landon signed Austin Bonds, a 6-1, 155 pound point guard out of Skyview High School. He joins Union’s Chris Williams and Bonds’ Skyview teammate Keegan Liebelt. – Picture

Travis Shaw (Saint Martin’s) went 4-for-5 with a triple, a home run, five runs scored and three RBIs to lead the Nisqually Silvers to a 14-5 romp over the Tumwater Brewers in game one of a PSCL doubleheader on Thursday night.

The first four batters in the Silvers lineup – Motoki Kawashima (Merced College), Shaw, Colby Fitzgerald (Bellevue University) and Alex Bielaski (Saint Martin’s) – went 9-for-19 with nine runs scored and nine RBIs.

Josh Snider (Yakima CC) went 3-for-4 with three RBIs for the Brewers.

The Olympia Athletics scored four runs in the first inning and two more in the second and never looked back in their 10-4 win over the Hawks Prairie Cardinals in the nightcap. Markus Hinkle (Western Oregon) and Chris Strain (Occidental College) each drove in a run and Stephen Mahnken (Saint Martin’s) drove in two more in the first inning. Andrew Lauritzen (Edgewood College) drove in another run and scored on an error to give the A’s a 6-1 lead through two.

The Cards came back with three runs in the third but the A’s answered back with four runs in the next two innings to put the game away.

Strain went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and Joe Crunkilton (Western Nevada) drove in a pair of runs for the A’s. Brandon Grimsley (Murray State College) and Cole Nagamine (Hawaii-Hilo) each collected two hits for the Cardinals.

Oly_RollersThis news is almost a month old, but the Oly Rollers confirmed to the Derby News Network that they will not be competing in the WFTDA post-season this year after winning The Hydra in the first year they were eligible in 2009 and then three straight second place finishes in 2010, 2011 and 2012. Oly did not schedule enough WFTDA sanctioned events to qualify for the post-season opting to schedule more USARS events this season. – Link

North Thurston alum and ex-US National Team and Seattle Sounders goalkeeper Kasey Keller will join the US National Team as a goalkeeper coach for the remainder of the CONCACAF Gold Cup. – Link

Timberline 2009 graduate and current Eastern Washington linebacker Ronnie Hamlin has been named to the Buck Buchanan Award Watch List, one of 20 nominees for the outstanding defensive player in the Football Championship Series regular season. Hamlin is a senior at Eastern but could be granted a sixth year after missing both 2009 and 2010 with injuries. He has played in 25 games since and had 136 tackles last season. – Link

Another Timberline grad, Cameron Peck, continued his hot 2013 summer taking home the PNGA Men’s Amateur Championship with a 7 and 6 win over Hans Reimer in Bandon, Oregon. Peck also won the Washington State Amateur earlier this summer. – Link

The first two Olympia Athletics batters, Tyler Watkins (Spokane Falls) and Rudy Leon (Spokane Falls), scored to give the A’s an early 2-0 lead that would stand up behind five shutout innings from Braden Geary (Centralia College) in their 7-0 win over the Tumwater Brewers.

Leon went 2-for-3 and scored three times and Ned Jones (Yakima CC) went 3-for-4 and drove in a pair of runs for the A’s. Austin Anderson (Centralia College) and Austin Taylor (Centralia College) each pitched two innings in relief of Geary allowing just three hits between them.

Elias Sablan (Olympic College) and JR Gaddy (Olympic College) both collected two hits for the Brewers.

southern-maryland-blue-crabs-2013-all-star-gameNorth Thurston alum Joash Brodin takes part in the independent Atlantic League’s All Star Game hosted by the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs tonight at 4:00 PM. Brodin, in his second season with the Long Island Ducks, is hitting .325 with eight home runs, 32 RBIs and has scored 47 runs. This is the third professional all star game that Brodin has played in. He went 0-for-2 in 2010 as a member of the Oakland County Cruisers of the Frontier League and went 4-for-5 with a home run, an RBI and three runs in the Frontier League All Star Game as a member of the London Rippers last season.

Cameron Peck advanced to the championships of the Pacific Northwest Men’s Amateur Championships in Bandon, Oregon. The Timberline grad and former Texas A&M Aggie golfer knocked off Kyle Bowser in the quarterfinals and Carl Jonson in the semifinals and will face Albany, Oregon’s Hans Reimer in a 36 hole final teeing off at 7:30 AM – Link

Timberline grad Cameron Peck defeated Nicholas Chianello in the round of 32 and Dylan Wu in the round of 16 today at the Pacific Northwest Golf Association Men’s Amateur Championships at Bandon Dunes in Bandon, Oregon. The Washington State Amateur champion will compete in the quarterfinals tomorrow at 9:00 AM against the University of Washington’s Kyle Bowser. – Link

The announcement is a little bit old, but Pierce College has added women’s soccer to their athletics department for the 2013 season. It is the closest NWAACC program to Olympia and should provide ample opportunity for local high school players to continue their careers. The school will announce their head coach soon and recruiting is ongoing. The team will play their home games at the Heritage Recreation Center in Puyallup. – Link

Spencer Dodd (Saint Martin’s) went 5-for-5, scored three times and drove in two runs in the Tumwater Brewers’ 11-4 win over the Olympia Athletics. The Brewers broke a 4-4 tie on a Joshua Fitch (Shoreline CC) RBI single and a two run single by Ryan Schlesser (Grays Harbor College) in a four run seventh inning. Andrew Rossman went 2-for-2 with two RBIs for the A’s.

Zack Larsen (Saint Martin’s) reached base five times and drove in four runs on three singles to lead the West Olympia Linx to a 7-6 win over the Olympia Athletics in the first game of a PSCL triple-header at The RAC. CJ Bader (Freed Hardeman), Reilly Fairchild (Aberdeen HS) and Austin Baker (Arkansas State) each scored twice and Ryan Atkinson (Columbia Basin) drove in a run in both the fourth and fifth innings when the Linx built their lead to 7-3 through five innings.

JJ Nazzaro (Gardner-Webb) tripled to drive in a pair of runs for the A’s in the sixth inning to cut the Linx lead to two runs. Joe Crunkilton (Western Nevada) doubled with one out in the seventh inning and was driven in by Sho Nakahama (Olympic College) to cut the Linx lead to 7-6. Nakahama advanced to third but Kegan Duz-Aguilar (Centralia College) got Sam Bisson (Dickinson State) to fly out to center to end the game.

Robby Campos (Olympic College) gave up two hits and struck out six batters in four innings as four Tumwater Brewers pitchers combined to give up just five hits in their 4-2 win over the Lacey Saints in game two at The RAC.

Kevin Afflerbach (Edmonds CC) allowed two base runners in his two innings of relief work for the Brewers and Nick Mailhot (Saint Martin’s, Northwest Christian HS) worked a scoreless seventh before getting into trouble in the eighth inning. Bo Pearson (Pacific Lutheran) tripled and following a walk to Josh Potter (Campbellsville), scored on a single by Jose Acosta (Centralia) to cut the lead to 4-2. Josh Sontag (Saint Martin’s) relieved Mailhot and promptly gave up a single to load the bases but struck out the next two batters and got the final out on a pop up to the first baseman to secure the victory.

Drew Fosnes (Montana State-Billings) went 3-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI and Elias Sablan (Olympic College) and Tyler LaDue (Saint Martin’s) each collected two hits for the Brewers.

FIREWORKS! Oh boy, if you haven’t had your fill of explosions, South Sound Speedway is the place for you. Their fireworks have always been an adventure over the years but the last fireworks show I saw there was outstanding.

And don’t forget the racing. Super late models, mini stocks, hobby stocks and super 4’s hit “the fastest 3/8ths mile on the West Coast” tonight.
