Thursday scoreboard: rough night for Lacey

Boys soccer

Tumwater 2, North Thurston 1
Black Hills 2, River Ridge 1
Decatur 5, Timberline 1

It was a good night for Tumwater, but a rough one for Lacey. Black Hills got a goal from Jacob Mager in the eighth minute and the eventual game winning goal from Kyle Benavente in the 69th minute to knock off River Ridge 2-1 in a 2A EvCo matchup. Ivan Mendez had the equalizer in the 29th minute for the Hawks. At South Sound Stadium, North Thurston dropped to 1-1 in the 2A EvCo with their loss to Tumwater. The T-Birds are now 2-0 in conference play. And Timberline couldn’t stop Decatur’s Michael Klavuhn in their non-league game in Federal Way. Klavuhn scored four goals for the Gators in their 5-1 victory over the Blazers.

Today (3/15): soccer plays in the rain

I’m not going to worry about posting the schedules for baseball or fastpitch or any other weather dependent sport unless I hear that they are going to try to play through this mess. But soccer isn’t weather dependent, typically, so here’s what is going on tonight…

Tumwater @ North Thurston – 7:00 PM
Enumclaw @ Capital – 7:00 PM
River Ridge @ Black Hills – 7:00 PM

Now if you’ll excuse me, it’s the most wonderful day of the year. Yes, I have the March Madness.

Wednesday scoreboard: Navigators, Bears win

About the games on turf fields in Lacey, the high school fastpitch and baseball teams were able to play their games today, but the big boys from Olympic College and Lower Columbia were rained out. What gives? I don’t blame them one bit, it was nasty.

High school baseball

Northwest Christian 8, Tacoma Baptist 7

Tied 5-5 through five innings, Northwest Christian scored three runs in the sixth inning and held off Tacoma Baptist in the seventh inning to pick up their first on-field win of the season.

High school fastpitch

Olympia 7, Curtis 6

Curtis scored five runs in the top of the seventh inning to tie Olympia 6-6 but the Bears scored in the bottom of the seventh to pick up the win. Nikki Schroeder pitched all seven innings for the Bears to pick up the win.

Tonight (3/14): baseball on turf

If your team doesn’t have a turf field, don’t expect to play today. But the Regional Athletic Complex does have a nice turf baseball field and it is getting a workout right now. And not just from local teams.

Today, Olympic College plays a doubleheader against Lower Columbia College starting at 3:00 PM. This is a makeup of a doubleheader that was rained out at Story Field in Longview last week. This is Olympic College’s second third doubleheader that has been moved to the RAC. The Rangers (OC) are 4-4 this season and the Red Devils 1-1.

And just down the road, Bucknell (Skyhawks) Park has a turf field, albeit with a very short porch. Northwest Christian is taking advantage of that park today when they play Tacoma Baptist at 4:00 PM. The Navigators are 1-0 after a Monday forfeit by Oakville.

UPDATE: Olympia’s fastpitch team takes on Curtis today at the RAC. First pitch is scheduled for 3:45. Turf!

Tuesday scoreboard: Saints roughed up, Blazers beat Hawks, T-Birds and Rams win

College baseball

Concordia 12, Saint Martin’s 5 – More from CascadeConference.org

Concordia jumped out to a 8-0 lead through five innings in a non-conference game in Portland on Tuesday afternoon and never looked back knocking off Saint Martin’s 12-5.  Adam Hudspeth, Bobby Twedt and Travis Jones each had two hits for the Saints. Concordia’s Jared Young went 2-for-4 with four RBI and Timberline graduate Ben Talbot drove in a run for the Cavaliers.

Tonight (3/13): spring sports are a go

STOP THE PRESSES: The University of Washington plays in the NIT tonight! Just kidding. Move on.

The spring sports season gets going in earnest tonight and it looks like even this snow won’t stop the fun. Here is the schedule in town as far as I can tell. Of course, all softball and baseball games could easily be canceled…

Tonight (3/12): Lacey Legends Cup 2012

North Thurston and Timberline renew their Lacey Legends Cup rivalry tonight when they open the 2012 boy’s soccer regular season at South Sound Stadium at 7:00 PM. The Rams won last year’s matchup 4-3 in a shootout.

Both schools will be honoring one alumni each. North Thurston will honor 1991 graduate, Jason Dunn. Dunn was a four year all-state player in high school and member of the Rams’ 1991 state championship team. Dunn went on to play at Seattle Pacific University where he was a two time All-American and won an NCAA Division II National Championship. He played professionally for the Seattle Sounders, Witchita Wings, Seattle SeaDogs and Harrisburg Heat and made three appearances with the U.S. National Team.

Timberline is honoring 1999 graduate Willy Leiste. Leiste was named all-league three times while a Blazer and went on to play college ball at Barry University in Miami, Florida. While in at Barry, Leiste went to the NCAA tournament three times, the Final Four twice and the NCAA championship game once in 2000. Following college, Leiste returned to Washington and has been coaching youth, high school and college soccer ever since.

In high school baseball action, Northwest Christian hosts Oakville at Bucknell Park at 4:oo PM. Northwest Christian’s baseball Twitter account has confirmed that this game will go on despite the weather.

In high school fastpitch action, River Ridge is scheduled to play Northwest Christian in but the game will probably be cancelled due to this storm.

Today (3/11): Olympic And Okanogan College visit Lacey

Rainy weather forced the Olympic College baseball team from Bremerton to move their home opening doubleheader against Okanogan College to the Regional Athletic Complex in Lacey. The first game starts at 11:00 AM.
