Saint Martin’s fall schedules

We are just a little over a month and a half away from the fall sports season and since Saint Martin’s is still without a Sports Information Director, the poor Saint Martin’s athletics website just sits there, relatively un-updated and begging for attention. Meanwhile, over at the GNAC, the fall sports schedules for the conference are up. I was curious about when the seasons for the men’s, women’s and volleyball teams started and had to dig around a bit to find them, hopefully you will find these Saints schedules easier than I originally did…

20120709-112625.jpgThe second place Hawks Prairie Cardinals (7-6 in league, 8-10 overall) take on the last place Nisqually Silvers (3-9 league, 4-13 overall) in a doubleheader at the RAC today. The two teams have met four times this season with the Cardinals winning three of the four. The Silvers’ only win was a 15-3 victory in the second game of a doubleheader on June 25th.

Today is the last regular season meeting between the two teams and both teams follow up today’s games with a trip to Silverdale to face the West Coast League’s Kitsap Bluejackets. The Silvers make the trip on Tuesday and the Cardinals get their chance on Wednesday.

First pitch in today’s doubleheader is scheduled for 5:00 PM.

Olympia Athletics 11, West Olympia Linx 4

Chase Myers (Skagit Valley College) drove in the tying run and scored the eventual winning run in the bottom of the sixth inning for the West Olympia Linx in their 5-4 game one win over the Olympia Athletics. Following a triple by the A’s Bret Bitow (Saint Martin’s) in the top of the seventh inning, Linx left fielder Ben Krueger (Yakima Valley CC) ended the game when he robbed the A’s Bret Grey (Central Washington) of the game tying RBI base hit with a diving catch. Drew Fosnes (Green River CC) and Sean Murphy (Murray State) each had two hits for the A’s in the loss.

In game two, the Linx made six errors and allowed 11 straight runs and the A’s took home an easy 11-4 victory. Kyle Thomson (Yakima Valley CC) went 2-for-4 with an RBI and Brandon Christianson (Yakima Valley CC) drove in two runs and scored twice for the A’s. Ryan Smith (Chemeketa CC, Black Hills HS) pitched five shutout innings to pick up the win.

Lacey Saints 1, Tumwater Brewers 0
Lacey Saints 4, Tumwater Brewers 4 – 11 innings/Saints awarded win

Bo Pearson (PLU) doubled with one out in the top of the first inning and scored the game’s only run on a Derek Voigt (Peru State University) single in the Lacey Saints’ 1-0 game one defeat of the Tumwater Brewers. John McCall (Oregon State) pitched four shutout innings and struck out five Brewers to get the win and Matt Bereiter (Centralia College) gave up just two hits over the final three innings to get the save for the Saints. Devin Smith (Olympic College) got the hard luck loss giving up just the one run on four hits over three innings. Tony LaDue (Saint Martin’s), Patrick Fabrizio (Shelton HS) and Cole Pittman (Chemeketa CC) kept the Brewers in the game scattering just two hits over the last four innings.

In the nightcap, the Saints and Brewers battled to a 3-3 tie through 10 innings. In the 11th, both teams scored one run and due to a league tiebreaker rule, the Saints were awarded the victory in the 4-4 game. Kyle Pegram (Pierce College) went 3-for-4 and Colby Fitzgerald (Centralia College) went 2-for-3 for the Saints while Naoki Imoto (Olympic College) had two of the Brewers’ five hits.
