Also tonight (5/11): Reign host Soldiers
The Olympia Reign return to the Skookum Creek Events Center at Little Creek Casino to face the Salem Soldiers. The Reign are 1-4 on the season while the Soldiers are 1-1.
The Soldiers’ Chehales Tapscott leads the International Basketball League in scoring with 30 points per game and Cory Largent is fourth with 22.5 ppg. The Reign are led by River Ridge grad Giovanne Woods and former Evergreen guard Mike Ward who are each scoring 18.4 points per game.
Tip-off is at 7:00 PM.
Today (5/9): Blazers open playoffs; Rams play for state
Timberline opens up their playoff run today against Enumclaw at Auburn Mountainview High School. The Blazers won the 3A Narrows League with a 9-1 record, 10-4 overall. Enumclaw beat Camas 9-4 yesterday to earn a meeting with the Blazers. First pitch is at 4:00 PM.
Meanwhile, the 2A District IV playoffs continue when North Thurston faces Centralia at Bearcats Stadium in Chehalis. The winner goes to state. The Tigers took two games out of three from the Rams in the regular season. First pitch is at 6:00 PM. Listen to the game on the Eli Sports Network.
Just up the road at Ed Wheeler Field in Centralia, Tumwater faces Hockinson in a loser-out game at 4:00 PM.
And after a surprising upset, Olympia plays a loser-out game against Rogers at 7:00 PM at Art Wright Field in Kent. Rogers is the #6 seed out of the SPSL and knocked off Graham-Kapowsin 7-2 yesterday.
In regular season softball action, Black Hills hosts W.F. West at 4:30 PM and River Ridge hosts Aberdeen also at 4:30.
2A Evergreen all-conference teams announced
The 2A Evergreen all-conference teams have been announced. W.F. West’s Mitch Gueller was named MVP and despite a near mutiny, Centralia’s John Rooklidge was named coach of the year.

Marie Beagle went 3-for-4 with a home run and four RBI in high scoring Olympia’s 10-0 win over Stadium. Amanda Rupright picked up the win for the Bears.
Capital erupted for 10 runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to break a 3-3 tie in their 13-3 victory over Timberline. Britni Wilson struck out ten Blazers in seven innings to get the win for the Cougars. She also went 2-for-4 and drove in two runs.
Today (5/7): Navs open districts; Hawks softball needs a win
The baseball postseason for Olympia area teams kicks off tonight when the Northwest Christian Navigators travel to Mossyrock to take on Toutle Lake. The Navigators are the #3 seed out of the 2B Pacific League while the Ducks are the #2 seed from the Central League. First pitch in this District IV matchup is at 6:00 PM.
The River Ridge softball team hopes to get off the schneid when they host Centralia today. The Hawks are 0-14 on the season and have been out scored by Centralia 33-0 in their two previous meetings this season. First pitch is at 4:30 PM.

Today (5/3): Reign, rain, rain

The Olympia Reign hope to get back on track when they host the Portland Chinooks tonight at the Skookum Creek Events Center.
On Saturday night, the Reign picked up their first win of the season with a 138-127 win over the Chinooks in Portland but stumbled Tuesday against the Vancouver Volcanoes losing 114-99. In Saturday’s win, Nicholas Moore and Marcus Whitaker both scored over 30 points and Giovanne Woods added 27. The Chinooks’ Jared Cunningham – from Cleveland State, not the NBA bound, early entry from Oregon State – scored 32 points and brought down 14 boards.
Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 PM
In boys soccer action, Timberline travels to Ingersoll Stadium to take on 3A Narrows League leader Capital at 7:00 PM. Capital is 6-0-2 on the season and Timberline is 3-3-2, good enough for third in league. The two teams played to a 1:1 tie on April 11th.
Weather has already cancelled the 3A Narrows League title game today between Timberline and Yelm. They will go to Districts as the #1 and #2 seeds respectively.
Weather has also moved the Tumwater/North Thurston baseball game to the RAC at 6:00 PM, if it gets played at all. River Ridge is also scheduled to play Centralia today, but it is highly doubtful they will get that game in.
UPDATE: River Ridge and Centralia have been moved to the RAC with first pitch scheduled for 3:00 PM.

River Ridge led by two goals with 24 minutes left to play, a playoff bid on the line, but North Thurston came back to tie it and take it to a shootout where the Rams won, 5-4. River Ridge is out while North Thurston moves on to play Hockinson on Saturday at 6:00 PM at Battle Ground Stadium in the 2A District IV playoffs.
Kevin Weyand and Connor Sigmon scored two goals apiece and secured an undefeated regular season for Tumwater with a 6-1 win over Black Hills.
Bruce Joling also scored two goals for Capital in their 4-0 blanking of Yelm.
International Basketball League
Vancouver Volcanoes 114, Olympia Reign 99
The Olympia Reign returned home to the Little Creek casino but shot just 38% from the field in a 114-99 loss to the defending IBL champion Vancouver Volcanoes. Former Evergreen Geoducks Mike Ward and Nicholas Moore led the Reign with 20 points apiece and Marcus Wright was the only other Reign to crack double digits with 12 points.

Today (5/1): 2A EvCo soccer wraps up regular season; Narrows League baseball playoffs underway
I’m getting ready to head to Kansas City for the rest of the week so I’ll have to keep this short. While there, though, Oly Sports will continue in normal fashion since my broken ankle will keep me a lot less busy than I originally planned.
On the schedule tonight, the last regular season soccer games in the 2A EvCo including River Ridge playing for a playoff spot. And the Narrows League baseball playoffs get underway in Tacoma…
