Friday scoreboard: Slam spoils Reign’s casino opener
International Basketball League
Bellingham Slam 133, Olympia Reign 104
Saint Martin’s alum Blake Poole scored 15 points and brought down 13 rebounds and the Saints’ Jeremy Green added 15 points to help the Bellingham Slam to a 133-104 spoiling of the Olympia Reign’s debut at the Skookum Creek Events Center at the Little Creek Casino. Three former Evergreen Geoducks – Mike Ward, Marcus Wright and Nick Moore – led the way for the Reign scoring 20, 13 and 12 points respectively.
The two teams battled back and forth for the first seven minutes of the game and Ward’s field goal at the 5:06 mark gave the Reign a 15-12 lead. The Slam then went on a 17-2 run to close out the first quarter and never allowed the Reign to get within eight points again.
Up 63-51 at halftime, the Slam reeled off the first seven points of the second half to take a 19 point lead. The Reign had one breath of life left cutting a 22 point lead to just 12 in the third quarter but the Slam outscored the Reign 46-29 over the last 13 minutes of the game to give themselves the easy victory.
Bellingham was led by Ira Graham’s 27 points and six rebounds. Morris Anderson added 26 points and seven boards. Paul Hafford chipped in 18 points and Michael Duty scored another 15.
Ward scored 18 points for the Reign in the first half but was held to just one basket in the final 24 minutes of play. River Ridge’s Giovanne Woods scored 11 points while Chris Weakley and Jacob Manning added ten points each for Olympia. Ex-Timberline Blazer and Geoduck superstar Nate Menefee looked rusty in scoring just six points on 1-for-8 shooting after arriving part way into the first quarter. The NAIA All-American averaged over 26 points for the Reign last season.
The Olympia Reign have over a week to work out the kinks and will travel to the 212 Sports Complex in Clackamas, Oregon on Saturday, April 28th to take on the Portland Chinooks. They return to Little Creek on Tuesday, May 1st when they play host to the Vancouver Volcanoes at 7:00 PM.

Saint Martin’s 13, Central Washington 0 – More from SMUSaints.com
On March 4th, the Saint Martin’s softball team lost a game to Central Washington 7-3. However, the Saints protested a home run in the bottom of the first inning that was originally called foul and then changed to fair after the umpires discussed the call at the request of the Wildcats’ coaches. The protest was upheld, the loss was struck from the Saints’ record and today the game resumed from just before the home run happened over a month ago.
And this time, Sam Munger got the out and proceeded to pitch a two hit, five inning mercy rule shutout and the Saints won easily, 13-0. Saint Martin’s had 17 hits in the game including six combined hits for Munger and Morgan Klemm that accounted for five of the Saints’ runs. Lacey McGladrey went 2-for-4 with a homer and two RBI.
The Saints have won three straight games to move to 28-15-1 overall and 18-10 in the GNAC.

Joey Renaud scored his first hat trick for North Thurston in their 4:0 win over W.F. West in the first game of the South Sound Stadium doubleheader. Keeper Desean Freeman had two saves for the Rams to earn the shutout.
Matteo Nartempi had the game winning goal in the 76th minute in Capital’s 2:1 win over Wilson at Stadium Bowl in Tacoma. Bryce Joling scored early for the Cougars with a goal in the third minute but the Rams answered back quickly with a goal of their own in the third minute from Chris Peterson. Today (4/18): Can the Saints’ bats heat back up?
If the weather can hold, today is a very good day for the Saint Martin’s softball team’s bats to heat back up. Since returning from their California road trip, the Saints have been shutout in five of their last ten games and have dropped to third place in the GNAC, six and a half games behind MSU Billings. But Northwest Nazarene comes into today at just 5-21 in the GNAC and 6-29 overall and were swept by the Saints 11-3 and 4-0 in a doubleheader on April 4th. First pitch for today’s doubleheader is scheduled for noon. UPDATE: Today’s games have been moved to the RAC.
