Today (4/24): T-Birds soccer hopes to stay undefeated
Kevin Weyand and the Tumwater soccer team hope to stay undefeated tonight when they take on River Ridge at South Sound Stadium at 7:00 PM. The T-Birds are 9-0 in the 2A EvCo while The Hawks are just 2-7 in conference but did give Tumwater a close game on March 26th, losing 2-1. Weyand, a German exchange student, has scored 15 goals in 12 games this season.
Across town, North Thurston travels to Tumwater Stadium to face cellar dwelling Black Hills. The Wolves are looking to avenge their worst loss of the season, a 6-0 win by the Rams on March 27th. North Thurston is 5-4 in conference while Black Hills is 1-9. First kick is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
One baseball game in town today when Tumwater hosts first place W.F. West. Wazzu bound Mitch Gueller and Logan James combined to throw a two-hitter in a 11-0 Bearcats win in the two teams first meeting this season on March 23rd. First pitch is scheduled for 4:30 PM.

Sam Munger hit a three run home run and pitched a complete game to pick up her 15th win of the season in Saint Martin’s 6-5 win in game one. Lacey McGladrey went 2-for-2 with two RBI and Megan Antonovich went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
In game two, Taylor Bakos gave up five unearned runs in the first three innings and the Saints were baffled by Western Oregon’s Myranda Sawyer and lost to the Wolves 5-1. Lacey McGladrey had two of the Saints’ four hits.
With the split and thanks to Central Washington’s sweep of first place Montana State Billings, the Saints move to four games back of the Yellowjackets. However, Billings’ magic number to clinch the GNAC’s automatic NCAA tournament bid is now just two.

College softball
Saint Martin’s 13, Central Washington 0 – More from SMUSaints.com
On March 4th, the Saint Martin’s softball team lost a game to Central Washington 7-3. However, the Saints protested a home run in the bottom of the first inning that was originally called foul and then changed to fair after the umpires discussed the call at the request of the Wildcats’ coaches. The protest was upheld, the loss was struck from the Saints’ record and today the game resumed from just before the home run happened over a month ago.
And this time, Sam Munger got the out and proceeded to pitch a two hit, five inning mercy rule shutout and the Saints won easily, 13-0. Saint Martin’s had 17 hits in the game including six combined hits for Munger and Morgan Klemm that accounted for five of the Saints’ runs. Lacey McGladrey went 2-for-4 with a homer and two RBI.
The Saints have won three straight games to move to 28-15-1 overall and 18-10 in the GNAC.

Wurtele struck first for the Blazers with a goal in the 37th minute, the only goal for the two teams in the first 60 minutes. Including Casey French’s goal in the 61st minute that opened up the floodgates, the two teams combined for six goals in the final twenty minutes of play.
Joey Renaud scored his first hat trick for North Thurston in their 4:0 win over W.F. West in the first game of the South Sound Stadium doubleheader. Keeper Desean Freeman had two saves for the Rams to earn the shutout.
Matteo Nartempi had the game winning goal in the 76th minute in Capital’s 2:1 win over Wilson at Stadium Bowl in Tacoma. Bryce Joling scored early for the Cougars with a goal in the third minute but the Rams answered back quickly with a goal of their own in the third minute from Chris Peterson. The two teams then battled for 73 minutes before Nartempi’s game winner.
Today (4/19): South Sound Stadium hosts soccer doubleheader
North Thurston kicks off a doubleheader of soccer action at South Sound Stadium at 5:00 PM with a 2A EvCo matchup with W.F. West. The Rams are fourth in conference at 4-4 while the Bearcats are fifth at 2-6. The two teams met on March 22nd and played to a 1:1 regulartion tie before a Nick Salazar overtime goal gave North Thurston the 2:1 victory.
In the second half of the doubleheader, Timberline hosts 3A Narrows League rival Yelm. The Blazers come into the game at 1-2-1 in league just ahead of 0-3-1 The Tornadoes. It will be the first meeting between the two teams this season. First kick is scheduled for 7:00 PM.

Today (4/14): Racing season starts; Saints host Vikes; Navigators to play?
Racing season at South Sound Speedway opens tonight with mini stocks, hobby stocks, bumblebees, bump to pass (my personal favorite) and baby grands. Kids 15 year and under are free tonight and adults cost $12. Gates open at 5:00 PM and racing starts at 6:30.
Saint Martin’s softball hosts a doubleheader with Western Washington today. The Saints are currently third in the GNAC at 14-9 and are 24-14-1 overall while the Vikings are 7-15 in conference play and 11-28 overall. The two teams split a pair of doubleheaders two weeks ago in Bellingham. Western’s Stephanie Fox blanked the Saints in both games extending her scoreless innings streak to 27 innings, a school record. She extended that record to 29 innings on Thursday against MSU-Billings before giving up seven runs over the next three innings. First pitch is at noon.
The Northwest Christian baseball team may finally play a baseball game today when they are set to host the Charles Wright Academy at Bucknell Park at 4:00 PM. Between Spring Break, the rain and Taholah canceling it’s season, the Navigators haven’t played a game since a loss to Lake Quinault on March 28th. Head coach Damon Ford’s squad is 4-4 overall and 2-2 in league.
Also on tap today, a 2A EvCo baseball matchup between Black Hills and North Thurston. First pitch in this makeup game is scheduled for 1:00 PM at NTHS.
There are also probably numerous other makeup games being played around town. Follow me on Twitter for the latest updates.
