Last night: Geoducks struggles continue

Men’s basketball: Northwest Christian 86, Evergreen 70 – The Geoducks only dressed six players while the Beacons played 14 players. I think this tweet from head coach Arvin Mosley Jr. tells the whole story…

The loss drops the Geoducks to 1-18 overall and 0-10 in conference play.

Women’s basketball: Northwest Christian 46, Evergreen 39 – It took the Geoducks until the 7:12 mark in the first half to score their first basketball but they still managed to chip away at a double digit lead and were only behind 19-14 at the half. After tying the score at 21, the Beacons went on a 13-0 run and never looked back en route to their first conference win. The Geoducks Danielle Swain had 10 points and tied a school record by bringing down 21 rebounds. Evergreen is now 4-15 overall and 2-8 in the CCC.

Tonight: Evergreen finally gets to play

After a week of snow and ice, falling trees and no power, the Evergreen campus is finally open again and ready to host some basketball.

The Evergreen women (4-14 overall, 2-7 CCC) face off against Northwest Christian (8-13 overall, 0-9 CCC) at 5:30 at the CRC Gymnasium. The Geoducks beat the Beacons 67-62 in the first meeting on December 20th but took CCC first place Oregon Tech to double overtime before eventually losing 66-68 last Saturday.

The woefully undermanned Evergreen men (1-17 overall, 0-9 CCC) hope to pick up a win over one of the weaker Cascade Conference teams, Northwest Christian (9-12 overall, 2-7 CCC). But even with a more complete roster on December 20th, the Geoducks still lost to the Beacons 96-79 in Eugene. Tip-off is at 7:30.

Tonight: Saints and Shock

The weather is still having an effect on local sporting events as both Evergreen and South Puget Sound have postponed their games originally scheduled for tonight. The Geoducks may play on Sunday and Monday if power can be restored and the Evergreen campus is deemed safe. If it is not, then the the poor Geoducks have agreed to travel to Eugene and Salem for these games. No dates have been set for the postponed SPSCC games.

But there are still a couple things happening this weekend if you are feeling as stir crazy as I’m feeling…

Saint Martin’s men vs. Alaska-Anchorage – Marcus Pavilion – 7:00 PM – The Saints are riding a three game winning streak into Saturday night’s game. Last Saturday they knocked off then first place Western Oregon 74-65 and this Saturday face the second place Seawolves who are 12-4 overall and 6-2 in the GNAC.

South Sound FC vs. Marysville Ruckus – Tumwater Indoor Sports – 7:00 PM – Olympia’s newest team and very first indoor soccer team, South Sound FC , opened their home season at Tumwater Indoor Sports last Saturday and knocked off the Wenatchee Fire 8-4 to push their PASL- Premier record to 2-2. This week the 0-4 Marysville Ruckus come to town sporting a -27 goal differential. Ouch. Tickets are only $5 and the first 50 fans through the doors get a souvenir schedule poster. Tonight: Nothing

All area high school games have been postponed and Evergreen’s games against Northwest Christian have been moved to Sunday. So Olympia, we got nothing tonight. Go read a book. May I recommend The Art of Fielding by Chad Harbach?
