Sunday scoreboard: Clippers get second win; Pioneers’ maroon squad dominates white

Men’s basketball

SPSCC 67, Linn-Benton 64 – Box score

Jamey Smith continued his hot start to the season scoring 19 points in South Puget Sound’s 67-64 win over Linn-Benton in the Pierce College tournament in Lakewood. A.J. Fuller and Scotty Ewing each added 16 points in the win. The Clippers scored 27 points off of 15 Roadrunners turnovers while the Roadrunners scored just four points off of 11 Clippers turnovers. Bonhan Stafford went 7-of-9 from three point range and scored 26 points to lead Linn-Benton.

Saturday scoreboard: T-Birds advance to state finals; Geoducks break losing streak, Clippers go off; Saints win third straight

High school football

Tumwater 35, Prosser 21

A strong second half on the ground on and stout defense turned the tide for Tumwater broke a halftime tie and propelled the T-Birds into the 2A state final game behind a 35-21 win over Prosser at Lampson Stadium in Kennewick. Andrew Brown scored two touchdowns in the first half but it was Christian Cummings with two TDs in the second half and a 12 yard rushing touchdown by Tyrus Snow that proved to be the game winner.

Tumwater will take on Lynden for the state title next Saturday in the Tacoma Dome at 1:00 PM.


Men’s basketball

Evergreen 74, Puget Sound 66 – Recap from Evergreen athletics

Evergreen loves the Saturday after Thanksgiving. For the second year in a row, the Geoducks have gone north and knocked off a Tacoma school, this year a 74-66 win over UPS. Unfortunately, the Geoducks haven’t posted any other wins between the two Saturdays. KJ Hong scored 25 points while Travis Wagner and Frankie Johnson each posted 11. The win was also the 200th win in program history.

Jamey Smith scored 40 points and Scotty Ewing added 36 in South Puget Sound’s 110-101 win over Shoreline at the Pierce College tournament in Lakewood.

Friday scoreboard: Van Sickle gets the record in Cougs loss; Saints drop Geoducks again

High school football

Lynden 48, Capital 21

Kai Van Sickle’s 37 yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter gave the Capital running back the single season rushing record in the state of Washington. But the touchdown only cut Lynden’s lead to 34-7 and the Lions held on to beat the Cougars 48-21 in the 2A semifinals at the Tacoma Dome. Capital finishes the season at 10-3.

Today (11/3): Geoducks soccer, volleyball; SPSCC soccer; Playoff football

The playoff bound Evergreen men’s soccer team takes on Northwest University today on Evergreen Pitch. Eight Geoducks will be honored on senior day. Kyle Wiese, George Bundy, Josh Strasser, Kevin Flavin, Jeremy Novack, Ben Joselyn, Brandon Wood and Mirza Memic will all play their final regular season home game.

The Geoducks knocked off the Eagles 4-0 in Kirkland on September 29th in their first meeting this season. First kick today is scheduled for 1:00 PM

Also in men’s soccer action, South Puget Sound wraps up their season with a home game against Southwestern Oregon. The two teams played to a 1-1 draw in Coos Bay on October 20th. First kick at the RAC is at 2:00 PM.

The Evergreen volleyball team is still looking for their first win in their final game of the season. Three seniors – Sasha Nash, Sonja Arrasi-Nash and Stephanie Peshlakai-John – will be honored before the game. Game time at the CRC Gymnasium is set for 7:00 PM.

Last, but certainly not least, three high school football playoff games are on tap tonight but just one of them is in town…

The Oly Rollers took first place at the USARS Northwest Regionals in Couer D’Alene, Idaho on Saturday. They next move on to the USARS Roller Derby National Championships in Fresno, California December 14th-16th.

Mirza Memic gave Evergreen a 1-0 lead in the 36th minute and Jeff Roland scored two insurance goals to give the Geoducks a 3-0 win over Northwest University in Springfield, Oregon on Wednesday afternoon. Mauricio Sanchez and Mitch Treend teamed up to post the shutout.

The win moves the Geoducks to 8-2 in CCC play, good enough for second place in conference.

South Puget Sound was mere minutes away from the second win of the season but Pierce scored twice in the final three minutes to escape The RAC with a 3-2 win.

The Clippers took a 2-0 lead thanks to goals by Jovanny Andrade and Giovanni Torres in the 26th and 28th minutes respectively. But Pierce answered back with a goal of their own in the 30th and the score remained 2-1 until Matthew Solis scored the equalizer in the 87th minute and Christian Rath scored the game winner in the 89th minute for the Raiders.

The heartbreaking loss drops the Clippers to 1-8 in league and 1-13-1 overall this season.

Kyle Ballard scored in the first minute and goalkeeper Devon Dieckman was credited with the eventual game winning goal in the 55th minute in South Puget Sound’s first win of the season, a 3-1 victory over Shoreline. Dieckman was also credited with an assist on Ballard’s goal. Jovanny Andrade scored the insurance goal for the Clipper in the 75th minute.

SPSCC is now 1-7 in league and 1-12-1 overall. Meanwhile, Shoreline falls to 0-11 and are the only remaining winless team in the NWAACC.

Caley Wiseman and Nicole Nedervelt each scored in Saint Martin’s 2-0 win over Simon Fraser on top of Burnaby Mountain. Ashley Engel and Gina Cardenas combined for the shutout in goal. Engel made five saves.
