Monday scoreboard: Silvers come back then hold off Saints

Puget Sound Collegiate League baseball

Nisqually Silvers 7, Lacey Saints 6
Olympia Athletics vs. Tumwater Brewers – No report

Helvy Mavarez (Centralia College) pitched six scoreless innings for the Lacey Saints allowing just three hits while striking out five and left the game with a 3-0 lead. But the Saints bullpen couldn’t hold the lead allowing seven runs over the seventh and eighth innings to drop a 7-6 decision to the Nisqually Silvers.

Down 3-0, Colin McCusker (Pacific University, Timberline HS) started the Silvers scoring in the bottom of the seventh with a two run single driving in Drew Madsen (Olympic College) and Motoki Kawashima (Merced College). The Saints answered right back with a run of their own in the top of the eighth on a David Tillotson (Centralia College) RBI single.

The floodgates opened for Nisqually in the bottom half of the inning with six straight hits including a two run single by Josiah Julagay (Timberline HS) to tie the game at four all. The tie was broken when Madsen stole home. Colby Fitzgerald (Bellevue University) doubled in two more runs to give the Silvers a 7-4 lead.

The Saints wouldn’t go quietly in the top of the ninth. Naoki Imeto (Olympic College) hit Quin Hartman (Green River CC) and walked Riley Shintaffer (Centralia College) and gave up a one out base hit to Devin Ferguson (Bellevue University) that scored Hartman and cut the Silvers lead to 7-5. Chase DeCoito (Saint Martin’s) relieved Imeto and quickly gave up an RBI single to Jose Acosta (Centralia College) but coaxed a double play out of the next batter to end the game.

Brad Banker (Saint Martin’s) got the start for the Silvers and gave up two earned runs over five innings while striking out four batters. Kawashima, Fitzgerald, Alex Bielaski (Saint Martin’s) and Madsen each collected a pair of hits in the win.

Acosta went 3-for-5 with an RBI and two runs and Shintaffer and William Pecson (Centralia College) each had two hits for the Saints.
