Sam Munger hit a three run home run and pitched a complete game to pick up her 15th win of the season in Saint Martin’s 6-5 win in game one. Lacey McGladrey went 2-for-2 with two RBI and Megan Antonovich went 2-for-3 with an RBI.

In game two, Taylor Bakos gave up five unearned runs in the first three innings and the Saints were baffled by Western Oregon’s Myranda Sawyer and lost to the Wolves 5-1. Lacey McGladrey had two of the Saints’ four hits.

With the split and thanks to Central Washington’s sweep of first place Montana State Billings, the Saints move to four games back of the Yellowjackets. However, Billings’ magic number to clinch the GNAC’s automatic NCAA tournament bid is now just two.

Saint Martin’s didn’t do anything easy on Saturday but still managed to sweep Central Washington. After being down 5-1 after the top of the third inning, game one was eventually won on a two out infield chopper by Bobby Twedt that scored Casey Thorpe from third.

In game two, the Saints fell behind seven runs in the first three innings but scored the next 12 runs, including a six run inning in the third and a five run inning in the fifth, and held on for a 12-10 win.

Today (4/21): Saints baseball faces Wildcats

The Saint Martin’s baseball team finally returns back to campus when they take on Central Washington in a GNAC doubleheader this afternoon. The Saints haven’t played a home game in nearly a month, not since they split a four game series with Northwest Nazarene on March 23rd and 24th.

The Saints come into today’s game in at 7-11 in GNAC play and 11-25 overall. The Wildcats are a game ahead of the Saints for third place at 7-9 in conference and are 15-19 overall. The two teams have met six times this season already with Central coming out on top five times. The Saints only win came on February 19th when they beat the Wildcats 7-6 in the last day of the Lewis & Clark State tournament.

Olympia’s Nate O’Bryan gets the start in game one of today’s doubleheader for Saint Martin’s. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 PM.

Bellingham Slam 133, Olympia Reign 104

Saint Martin’s alum Blake Poole scored 15 points and brought down 13 rebounds and the Saints’ Jeremy Green added 15 points to help the Bellingham Slam to a 133-104 spoiling of the Olympia Reign’s debut at the Skookum Creek Events Center at the Little Creek Casino. Three former Evergreen Geoducks – Mike Ward, Marcus Wright and Nick Moore – led the way for the Reign scoring 20, 13 and 12 points respectively.

The two teams battled back and forth for the first seven minutes of the game and Ward’s field goal at the 5:06 mark gave the Reign a 15-12 lead. The Slam then went on a 17-2 run to close out the first quarter and never allowed the Reign to get within eight points again.

Up 63-51 at halftime, the Slam reeled off the first seven points of the second half to take a 19 point lead. The Reign had one breath of life left cutting a 22 point lead to just 12 in the third quarter but the Slam outscored the Reign 46-29 over the last 13 minutes of the game to give themselves the easy victory.

Bellingham was led by Ira Graham’s 27 points and six rebounds. Morris Anderson added 26 points and seven boards. Paul Hafford chipped in 18 points and Michael Duty scored another 15.

Ward scored 18 points for the Reign in the first half but was held to just one basket in the final 24 minutes of play. River Ridge’s Giovanne Woods scored 11 points while Chris Weakley and Jacob Manning added ten points each for Olympia. Ex-Timberline Blazer and Geoduck superstar Nate Menefee looked rusty in scoring just six points on 1-for-8 shooting after arriving part way into the first quarter. The NAIA All-American averaged over 26 points for the Reign last season.

The Olympia Reign have over a week to work out the kinks and will travel to the 212 Sports Complex in Clackamas, Oregon on Saturday, April 28th to take on the Portland Chinooks. They return to Little Creek on Tuesday, May 1st when they play host to the Vancouver Volcanoes at 7:00 PM.

Today (4/18): Can the Saints’ bats heat back up?

If the weather can hold, today is a very good day for the Saint Martin’s softball team’s bats to heat back up. Since returning from their California road trip, the Saints have been shutout in five of their last ten games and have dropped to third place in the GNAC, six and a half games behind MSU Billings. But Northwest Nazarene comes into today at just 5-21 in the GNAC and 6-29 overall and were swept by the Saints 11-3 and 4-0 in a doubleheader on April 4th. First pitch for today’s doubleheader is scheduled for noon. UPDATE: Today’s games have been moved to the RAC.

There are also a handful of high school games scheduled for today…

Sunday scoreboard: Dropkick Donnas Scandalized; Saints split again

Roller Derby

Port Scandalous 106, Dropick Donnas 103

The Oly Rollers’ Dropkick Donnas and the Port Scandalous Rollergirls were tied at 103 with just over a minute to play but Port Scandalous got the last three points of the bout to pull out a thrilling 106-103 win at Skateland on Sunday night. The Donnas were down by ten at halftime and eleven with 14 minutes to play before closing the gap to draw even.

College baseball

Saint Martin’s 1, MSU Billings 0
MSU Billings 1, Saint Martin’s 0 – More from SMUSaints.com

Offense was scarce at Dehler Park in Billings on Sunday when the two teams combined for just two runs total over 16 innings, the lowest scoring doubleheader in GNAC history. In game one, the Saints’ Tommy Deboer gave up just four hits and struck out six Yellowjackets in eight scoreless innings of work. Travis Jones’ double in the top of the ninth inning drove in Mario Sanelli for the only run of the game and Zach Carter worked a 1-2-3 bottom of the ninth to preserve the win for the Saints.

In game two, Kaleb Wilson and Josh Moss combined to give up one run on four hits for the Saints but were out dueled by Matt Eames’ two hit, seven inning complete game shutout. With the weekend split, the Saints are now 11-25 overall and 7-11 in GNAC play.
