Today (7/28): PSCL playoffs, MIA Derby Girls, Racing
The Puget Sound Collegiate League playoffs continue today with the top two seeds kicking off their playoff run in the morning and early afternoon and continuing later with two elimination games.
Game one pits the #3 seed West Olympia Linx against the #2 seed Lacey Saints. The Saints were solidly on top of the PSCL standings but were swept by the Olympia Athletics in the last week of play and were just 2-6 over their last eight games. On the other hand, the Linx went 5-3 over their last eight games including a 1-0 11th inning win over the Nisqually Silvers last night. The Saints and Linx met six times this season with the Saints taking the season series 4-2. First pitch at the RAC is at 11:00 AM.
The #1 seed Olympia Athletics get their playoff run underway at 2:00 PM at the RAC against the Hawks Prairie Cardinals. The A’s and Cardinals have met six times this season with the A’s taking four games with one of the Cardinals wins came from an 8-8 tie where the win was awarded to the Cards based on tiebreaker rules. The A’s come into the playoffs red hot winning nine of the last ten games.
The first elimination game gets underway at the RAC at 5:00 and pits the tough luck first round loser Nisqually Silvers against the Tumwater Brewers. The two teams just wrapped up the “Mohawk Series” with the Silvers taking two of three from the Brewers and resulting in a new hairdo for Brewers head coach Abe Lupkin.
And finally, the day wraps up with the second elimination game at 7:45 between the loser of the Linx/Saints game and the loser of the A’s/Cardinals game.

The Senators went 2-1 in pool play losing only to the defending two time champion Seattle Studs 6-1 last night. First pitch in Kamloops is at 2:30. Today (6/23): Tecmo, derby definitely; Baseball, racing doubtful
In personal 10 year-old me excitement level at an all time high news, The Brick on Trosper is hosting the inaugural Pacific Northwest Tecmo Chamionships and I will be representing Oly Sports hard. Tecmo Bowl and Tecmo Super Bowl were always my favorite video games growing up, even when the technology got better and better. So there is no way that I can pass up playing a Tecmo Super Bowl tournament. I was so obsessed with the original Tecmo Bowl that I actually kept a notebook that tracked the statistics for all of my games. When Tecmo Super Bowl was released and kept the stats for you, I didn’t have to keep that notebook anymore, but I was still obsessed.
The tournament gets underway with pool play at noon that determines the seeding for the double elimination tournament that will crown a champion. You can still register for the tournament at The Brick on Trosper and the buy-in is $20. For more information, visit PNWTecmo.com.
Following my triumphant victory at the Tecmo tournament, head on over to Skateland! (I have decided I will always refer to Skateland! as Skateland! with an exclamation point from here on out on this blog) for the Oly Rollers derby doubleheader.
The warmup bout pits the fresh meat Bella Donnas against the JBLM Bettie Brigade. Then, the big league Cosa Nostra Donnas face off against The Naptown Roller Girls’ Tornado Sirens who have traveled all the way from Indianapolis for three games over the weekend. Naptown, the #18 ranked squad by Derbytron and #15 ranked by Derby News Network, plays Jet City in the morning, Oly Rollers at night and Rat City on Sunday. Meanwhile, the Oly Rollers are currently ranked #1 by Derbytron but just 12th by Derby News Network ad will be well rested and ready to rumble the road weary Sirens.
Tickets for all this great derby action can be purchased at the Skateland! door for $15 and wheels hit the floor at 6:00 PM.
The Puget Sound Collegiate League season continues with three games on Saturday at the RAC, weather permitting. Game one features a match-up between the league leaders, the 4-1 Lacey Saints, and the league cellar dwellers, the 0-4 Nisqually Silvers. First pitch is at noon. Game one has been rained out. The Silvers play their second game of the day at 2:30 PM against the 3-2 West Olympia Linx. And in game three, the the Tumwater Brewers and Hawks Prairie Cardinals square off looking to break their tie four fourth place. First pitch is scheduled for 5:00 PM.
And finally, it will take a weather miracle for racing at South Sound Speedway to get the go ahead. But if there is a miracle, racing starts at 6:30 PM. Racing is cancelled today.
Today (6/16): Capital Stage Race; Tons of baseball; Fight night; Racing
I hate to short change this full day of sports but I’m pressed for time this morning so we’ll keep this short…
As I type this, stage two of the Capital Stage Race has begun, a time trial from Heritage Park down Deschutes Parkway and back. Stage three, the Capital Criterium gets underway at the State Capitol Campus this afternoon. Visit my viewers guide for more information.
The Capital City Bombers adult baseball team plays this morning at Crandall Field at Olympia High School. First pitch is at 10:00 AM. Sorry, the Bombers game is tomorrow.
The PSCL plays six games today, three sets of doubleheaders, at both the RAC and Saint Martin’s University. At the RAC, the action begins at noon with a doubleheader between the Nisqually Silvers and West Olympia Linx. Over at Saint Martin’s, the Tumwater Brewers face the Lacey Saints for a double dip starting at noon. Then, in the nightcaps, the Olympia Athletics square off against the Hawks Prairie Cardinals in two games starting at 5:00 PM.
South Sound Speedway continues its season tonight. As always, qualifying begins at 5:00 PM and racing begins at 6:30. Tickets are $12 for adults.
And finally, South Sound Sports Center hosts Northwest Fight Challenge XIV. A whole host of MMA action hits Tumwater at 7:00 PM, doors open at 6:00. Tickets are $25 for general admission or $50 for VIP ringside seating.
