Jakob Racimo made five saves over 89 minutes of regulation and two overtime periods before Van Soderberg entered the game and made three straight saves in the penalty kick shootout to give Capital a 1-0 win over Sedro-Woolley in the 2A state semifinals at Sunset Chev Stadium in Sumner.
After a scoreless 80 minutes and two five minute overtimes, Oni Mayer and Nigel El-Sokkary each buried their penalty kicks and the shootout went to the last round tied 2-2. Daniel Pailthorp beat Michael Moser to make it 3-2 and Soderberg stoned Kris Swanson to set off a celebration and pitch invasion from the Capital student section.
The Cougars will face Squalicum in the state championship game on Saturday at 5:00 PM.
