High school softball
3A State Tournament – The RAC
The last sixteen 3A teams left battle it out at The RAC over the next two days. Games start at 9:00 AM and run all afternoon until the final games of the day get underway at 6:00. No Olympia area teams remain, unfortunately.
2A State Tournament – Carlon Park, Selah
Tumwater vs. Fife – 10:00 AM
Capital vs. Sequim – Noon
Tumwater (18-5), the second place team out of the 2A EvCo and #3 seed from District 4, get an extremely tough first round match-up in Fife. The Trojans are 23-2 this season and
rolled through the sub-district and District 3 tournaments outscoring their opponents 59-13. The winner will move on to play either Sultan or Othello in the next round at 4:00 PM while the loser will play one of those two teams at 2:00 PM.
Capital (11-12) knocked off the GSHL’s regular season champ and then pulled another upset by beating Tumwater to make it to the state tourney. Now they face the Olympic League’s regular season champion and District 3 runners-up, Sequim. The Wolves are 19-4 overall. The winner plays Lynden or Ellensburg at 4:00 and the loser plays the loser of that game at 2:00.

2A State Tournament Semifinals – Radio
Tumwater vs. Lake Washington – Yakima County Stadium – 1:00 PM
Two masterful regionals pitching performances from Garrett Terrell and Elijah Hill sent Tumwater into the state semifinals today where they will face Lake Washington. The T-Birds (22-4) get a Kangs team that is 16-9 overall but have won six straight and outscored their opponents in the postseason 35-6. They mercy ruled both of their regionals opponents, North Kitsap and Archbishop Murphy, and are led by John Lyon both on the mound and at the plate.
The winner gets Anacortes or Ellensburg in the finals on Saturday at 4:00 PM. The loser will play in the 3rd/4th place game at 10:00 AM.
Boys soccer
2A State Tournament Semifinals – Radio
Capital vs. Sedro-Woolley – Sunset Chev Stadium – 8:00 PM
2A EvCo offensive MVP Nigel El-Sokkary (21 goals, 18 assists) and defensive MVP Jakob Racimo (16 shutouts in goal) and the 20-2 Cougars face Sedro-Woolley (15-4-3) in the last game of the day at Sunset Chev Stadium in Sumner.
Both teams dropped games in districts. Capital fell to Hockinson 3-2 while Sedro-Woolley dropped a pair, 4-1 to Anacortes and 5-1 to Archbishop Murphy.
In the first two rounds of the state tournament, the Cougars pulled a pair of 1-0 wins over Anacortes and Kingston to advance to Sumner. After dropping Ridgefield in a shootout in the first round, the Cubs exorcised the Archbishop Murphy demon with a 3-2 win.
The winner takes on either Toppenish or Squalicum in the championship game on Saturday at 5:00 PM. The loser plays in the 3rd/4th place game on Saturday at noon.
