Saturday College Scores: Gelhar’s 27 Leads Saints Women to Upset of #18 Crusaders

Angela Gelhar scored a career high 27 points including the go ahead three pointer with 54 seconds left to lead Saint Martin’s to a 61-56 win over 18th-ranked Northwest Nazarene. It is the Saints first win over a ranked opponent since they beat #11 Alaska-Anchorage in 2011 and snapped an 11 game losing streak to the Crusaders.

Saint Martin’s forced 24 Northwest Nazarene turnovers and held the Crusaders to just 30.9% shooting. Megan Hingston scored 20 points, right at her average this season, but went just 7-for-21 from the floor. The trio of Chelsie Luke, Taylor Simmons and Kayla Schumannn were held to just 19 points combined, 16.9 points below their average, as the Crusaders, who average 80 points per game, were held to their lowest point total of the season by 12 points.

Gelhar scored 10 of the Saints last 12 points including two of her three three pointers. She went 12-of-12 from the free throw line on a night where Saint Martin’s missed just three shots from the charity stripe, going 25-for-28. Chelsea Haskey was limited by foul trouble but still managed to score 13 points and Mackenzie Taylor added 10 points and eight rebounds.
