Sunday Scoreboard: Geoducks Nearly Shucked on the Keel
Men’s basketball
Cal Maritime 79, Evergreen 75 – Recap
In a game that was as entertaining as their nicknames, Frankie Johnson’s three with 1:44 left to play gave the Evergreen Geoducks a 75-74 lead over the NAIA Division II 22nd-ranked Cal Maritime Keelhaulers. But Jaquai Wiley’s layup with 50 seconds left gave the Keelhaulers to lead for good and the Geoducks fell 79-75 at the CRC Gymnasium on Sunday afternoon.
Johnson led the way for Evergreen with 16 points and five assists. Kyle Calhoun and Cody Peters chipped in 13 and 12 points respectively. Casey Healy led Cal Maritime with 26 points and eight rebounds and Erik Hanson added 15 points including two free throws that iced the game after KJ Hong missed what would have been the go ahead three pointer with three second left for the Geoducks.
Evergreen falls to 1-4 this season while Cal Maritime improves to 7-1.
