Today (2/28): Blazers battle Quakers, Hawks face Tigers at state quarters
The Timberline boys and the River Ridge girls open up play at WIAA basketball tournaments today in Tacoma and Yakima. The Blazers face the Franklin Quakers at 3:45 PM at the Tacoma Dome and the Hawks battle Burlington-Edison at 7:15 at the SunDome in Yakima.
Donaven Dorsey and the 16-9 Timberline boys will face another nine loss team in Franklin. The Quakers, led by senior guard Patrick Ball and his 18 points per game, lost three of their six postseason games including two to tournament favorite Rainier Beach but advanced to the Tacoma Dome with a 76-64 win over Stanwood in regionals play on Saturday. The Quakers fell to Mercer Island in districts before the Blazers finished the Islanders off at regionals.

In Yakima, the River Ridge girls draw #8 ranked Burlington-Edison in their quarterfinal game at the SunDome The Tigers are 20-3 overall with their only losses coming to league champ Ferndale, red hot Lynden Christian early in the season and Blaine late in conference play. Since the loss to the Borderites, Burlington-Edison has won five in a row and four relatively easy games in the playoffs including a 53-22 dismantling of Olympic in regionals.
