KMAS and OlySports.com Announce Expanded High School Football Coverage

KMASPRESS RELEASE: KMAS to broadcast five Shelton games, the Spaghetti Bowl and Pioneer Bowl

SHELTON, Wash. – Newsradio 1030 AM KMAS, in conjunction with OlySports.com, will expand their high school football coverage for the 2014 season to include Shelton High School football and four prime matchups featuring Thurston County powerhouses. KMAS will be the only local radio station providing over-the-air broadcasts of Olympia area games this season.

“Not many people know it, but KMAS Radio broadcast the South Sound Game of the Week as far back as 27 years ago, with John Willis doing the play by play,” said Dale Hubbard, President and General Manager of Olympic Broadcast and Media. “We are excited about our recent programming changes, to all news & information for the South Sound, and are looking forward to bringing some of the best high school matchups in the area to the fans!”

KMAS will broadcast five Shelton High School football games beginning with the Mason County Cup against North Mason on September 5 and continuing with 3A Narrows League games against Foss (September 19), Wilson (October 3), North Thurston (October 17) and Capital (October 31).

The Highclimbers return a talented group of seniors including All-Narrows first team linebacker Brian Nault and honorable mention running back Jake Henry and will look to improve on their 2-8 record in the 2013 season.

The OlySports.com Game of the Week on KMAS will debut on September 12 with the annual Spaghetti Bowl featuring Olympia and Capital at Ingersoll Stadium. KMAS will carry the Timberline at Olympia game on September 26 and the Pioneer Bowl between Tumwater and Black Hills on October 24. The October 10 game is still to be determined.

The KMAS football broadcast team of Brandon Sparks and John McGlamery return to the booth for their third season.

“John and I are excited for the opportunity to continue to call Highclimbers football games,” said Sparks, who is also runs the local sports website OlySports.com. “And we can’t wait to bring some of the best games between South Sound teams back to the airwaves in the Olympia area.”

In total, KMAS will broadcast five Shelton games and feature Capital and Olympia twice and Tumwater, Timberline, North Thurston and Black Hills once with one week of games yet to be determined.

All games can be heard live on 1030 AM and 104.1 FM and can be streamed worldwide on kmas.com or the TuneIn Radio app on a smartphone.
