January 30th recap: Capital goes three overtimes, Timberline notches two wins, Oly keeps rolling
First of all, I apologize for not having a couple of these games on the “tonight” post this morning. Still trying to find a reliable source for a schedule. The makeup games are from the snowstorm have made things a little confusing.

Olympia 75, South Kitsap 49
Capital 104, Foss 100 – 3OT
Timberline 61, Yelm 54
Capital and Foss played an epic game on Monday night. The third overtime finally settled it as the Cougars took home an 104-100 victory over Foss. Three players, Karl Peterson (26 points), Keenan Williams (25) and Jaren Eidenmuller (23) combined for 74 of their 104 points. Olympia moved to 9-1 in the 4A Narrows League and are still tied for first place with Bellarmine who beat Gig Harbor 57-48 tonight. And Timberline picked up it’s first conference win on the season.

Timberline got 28 points from Sasha Weber in their 59=49 win in Yelm. The win moves Timberline to 6-1 in the 3A Narrows League one game behind Wilson who beat Lincoln 71-35 tonight. The Blazers play host to Lincoln on Wednesday before traveling to Wilson on Friday with first place possibly on the line.

Something’s got to give tonight in Lacey when Yelm visits Timberline. Both teams come in winless in the 3A Narrows League. Timberline is 5-10 overall while Yelm is just 2-13. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
Sprinker Ice Rink Reopens

The Sprinker Ice Rink in Spanaway reopened today after an eight month, $6 million renovation. The News Tribune has the full story. I post this here at OlySports.com because Sprinker is the closest sheet of ice to Olympia and gets a lot of action from Olympia area residents.
I don’t know about you, but I’m ready for Olympia to have an ice rink. I don’t expect anybody to open one anytime soon, I don’t see enough demand to make it worth the price for a private enterprise. But if it were part of a larger development, perhaps. Olympia could really use a convention center, combine that with a hockey arena – Olympia would be a perfect fit for the junior North American Hockey League – and there you go. It’s probably a pipe dream in this economy, but what the heck, it’s always good to dream.
Tonight (1/29): the Oly Rollers are back!
Roller Derby is back for 2012! The Oly Rollers kick of ftheir season with a doubleheader that will pit Olympia’s Bella Donnas against Centralia’s Rainy City Roller Dolls and Oly’s Dropkick Donnas against Corvallis, Oregon’s Sick Town Derby Dames.
Tell me, what about this doesn’t look like awesome fun times…

The action kicks off at 6:00 PM at venerable Skateland. Tickets are $15 and are available through Brown Paper Tickets or at the door.

MSU-Billings 82, Saint Martin’s 74 – More from MSUBsports.com
SPSCC ground out the only win for Olympia area colleges on Saturday night knocking off Centralia College 75-66 despite 32 points from Centralia’s Van Lockett. The Clippers improve to 3-5 in the NWAACC West division and Centralia drops to 2-7.
Women’s basketball

Eastern Oregon 54, Evergreen 53 – More from Geoducks athletics
MSU-Billings 58, Saint Martin’s 52 – More from SMUSaints.com
The Evergreen State College women, just 4-18 on the season, continue to give ranked opponents fits. On Saturday in La Grande, the Geoducks fell just a buzzer beater short of beating the #8 ranked Eastern Oregon Mountaineers falling 54-53. The Geoducks led by as many as ten in the second half and were up by one with just 2.4 seconds left but were whistled for a fould and EOU’s Dominique Johnson sank both her free throws to win the game. Black Hill’s Danielle Swain led the way for Evergreen with 18 points and nine rebounds.
Boy’s basketball
Northwest Christian 66, Ocosta 48
Zach Carras scored 21 points for the Northwest Christian Navigators…all in the second quarter. That’s a solid eight minutes of work.
Indoor Soccer
South Sound FC Shock 13, WSA Rapids 8 – Unofficial score, as recalled by @Emmettoconnell
UPDATE FROM SSFC: South Sound FC 12, WSA 9
Big win for the South Sound FC in their third home game at Tumwater Indoor Sports. WSA Rapids was undefeated coming into the game and had beaten the shock 11-3 at the Bellingham Sportsplex in December. The win moves the Shock’s record to .500 at 3-3.
Tonight (1/28): Lady Saints & Shock
Busy morning in the OlySports.com household, sorry for the delay. I’m sitting in Meconi’s typing this on my phone. Mmm…delicious Meconi’s.
Tonight the Saint Martin’s women play MSU-Billings at Marcus Pavilion at 7:00 PM.
The South Sound FC Shock play WSA Rapids at Tumwater Indoor Sports at 7:00 PM. According to their website, tonight they’ll have a beer garden, giveaways and merchandise for sale. Score!
January 27th recap: One North Thurston team seizes first place while the other falls
Boy’s basketball
Capital 75, Timberline 59
Olympia 56, Central Kitsap 34
River Ridge 67, Black Hills 58
North Thurston 86, Tumwater 69
Landon Rushton scored 38 points for North Thurston in their 86-69 victory over Tumwater. The win moves the Rams into sole possession of first place in the EvCo. The packed house in Lacey witnessed a wonderful performance by Rushton, a hard fought game by both teams and a symphony of whistles as over 45 fouls (I estimated closer to 50) were called on the two teams, and yet you could say that the referees showed tremendous restraint in a very rough and tumble kind of game.
Girl’s basketball
Northwest Christian 35, Ocosta 25
Central Kitsap 50, Olympia 42
Timberline 53, Capital 38
Tumwater 58, Centralia 34
W.F. West 59, North Thurston 42
However, down in Chehalis, the lady Rams couldn’t secure first place in the EvCo falling to W.F. West 59-42. W.F. West jumped out to a commanding 30-16 halftime lead and were never seriously threatened again.
Men’s basketball
College of Idaho 73, Evergreen 44 – Game recap from the Geoducks
Women’s basketball
College of Idaho 62, Evergreen 47 – More from Geoducks athletics
Tonight (1/27): Rams. T-Birds. Let’s do this.
First place in the 2A EvCo is on the line tonight in Lacey when the North Thurston boys play host to Tumwater at 7:30 PM. Both teams come into the game at 5-2 in conference. The Rams are coming off a surprising loss to head coach Tim Brown’s dad Ron Brown and his Centralia Tigers while Tumwater has won three straight. Olysports.com will be on hand and will bring you updates and pictures on our Twitter account @OlySportsBlog.
In other action around town, River Ridge goes to Black Hills and will move into sole possession of second place if they can knock off the Wolves. Meanwhile, back in Lacey, Timberline hosts Capital.
And since I have a hungry one year-old yelling at me and crawling up my leg (I’m a professional!), here is the preview-free version of the girl’s basketball schedule…
Central Kitsap at Olympia
Capital at Timberline
