Wednesday scoreboard: T-Birds survive

Boys soccer

Tumwater 3, Port Angeles 2

Down one goal, Port Angeles won a throw-in with just 4.4 seconds left. The throw went into the box and a Roughrider got his head on the ball but knocked it just wide and Tumwater barely survived with a 3:2 win.

Just 50 seconds earlier, Port Angeles’ Hayden McCartney scored his second goal of the game to cut into Tumwater’s lead to give them the opportunity for the equalizer. McCartney scored the Roughriders first goal in the 72nd minute to make the score 2:1.

A minute later, Kevin Weyand scored the eventual game winner for the T-Birds with a great individual effort and blast past the keeper.

Connor Sigmon scored the first two goals for Tumwater, both rebounds from shots that the Port Angeles keeper couldn’t hold. The first came midway through the first half and the second came in the 69th minute to give the T-Birds a 2:0 lead.

Tumwater remains undefeated on the season and moves on to play Franklin Pierce in the second round of the 2A state playoffs on Saturday. Franklin Pierce knocked off Sehome 3:2 yesterday.

Today (5/16): Can Tumwater stay undefeated?

Boys soccer state playoffs continue tonight when Port Angeles comes to town to take on Tumwater. The T-Birds hope to continue their undefeated season against the Roughriders who come into the game at 10-4-4 overall. The T-Birds will have to stop Port Angeles forward Anthony Brandon, an 18 goal scorer this season.

First kick at Tumwater Stadium is at 7:00 PM. The Peninsula Daily News has an extensive preview of the game and you can listen to the game online on the Eli Sports Network.
