Saint Martin’s 84, Montana State-Billings 78 – Recap from SMUSaints.com
Centralia 95, SPSCC 66 – Box score

Senior night at Saint Martin’s with their season on the line, Brady Bomber, Roger O’Neill and Eric Taylor delivered. The three seniors combined for 44 points, 30 in the second half, and sophomore Will Bond scored a career high 28 points in the Saints’ 84-78 win over Montana State-Billings at Marcus Pavilion.

The win, combined with Central Washington’s 30 point loss to Northwest Nazarene, keeps the Saints in the hunt for the sixth and final playoff spot. The Saints will need to beat Northwest Nazarene in Nampa and have Western Oregon knock off Central on Thursday to set up a game between the Saints and Wildcats in Ellensburg on Saturday with a trip to the playoffs on the line. Saint Martin’s hosts the GNAC playoffs March 6th through the 9th.

Will Bond’s second three pointer of the night put Saint Martin’s up by eight points, 19-11, at the 12:54 mark of the first half. Following a pair of buckets from Bond, Evan Coulter’s three put the Saints up 26-19 with nine minutes left in the half. The Yellowjackets would finish the half on an 18-9 run including Robbie Trabing’s layup at the buzzer to take a 39-35 lead into the locker room.

Jarrell Crayton’s layup on Billings’ first possession of the second half put them up 41-35 but two quick three pointers by Roger O’Neill and Eric Taylor tied the game at 41. But Sam Johnson’s jumper with 16:20 left to play gave the Yellowjackets their larget lead at 50-42.

But a 12-1 run over the next four minutes put the Saints up by three and they would hold the lead until Johnson surprised everybody by stepping out and hitting a long, straight away three pointer to give Billings a 60-58 lead with 9:30 to play. The two teams would trade the lead back and forth over the next eight and a half minutes.

Down 76-75 with less than a minute to play, Taylor’s drained a three pointer for a 78-76 lead and put the Saints up for good. Bomber, Bond and Taylor went 6-for-6 from the line in the final minute of play to ice the game and give the Saints the 84-78 win.

Seniors O’Neill and Taylor scored 13 points each in the second half to finish with 19 and 15 points respectively while fellow senior Bomber scored 10 points and dished out six assists. Bond scored 16 points in the second half en route to his career high 28.

Jarrell Crayton paced Billings with 19 points and David Arnold added 18.

Taylor missed most of his junior season with an ankle injury but played in to many contests to qualify as a redshirt. You can read more about Taylor in this profile from the Saints’ Kyle Karnofski.

Last night it was the girls turn, today it’s the boys in the regional round of the state basketball tournament.
