Evergreen Men Open Season With a Road Win

Evergreen 3, Northwest Christian 1 – Box Score

Freshman Ryan Porch scored his first goal as a Geoduck in the 78th minute to break a 1-1 tie and Evergreen got an insurance goal late from Willie Spurr to open the season with a 3-1 win over Northwest Christian. Tom Kemennu opened the season with a tap-in off of the rebound of a Porch shot in the 29th minute to put the Geoducks up 1-0. Evergreen outshot the Beacons 23-5 in this non-conference game against a conference foe in Springfield, Oregon. They return to Geoducks Pitch to host Doane on Sunday at 2:00 PM.

Freshmen Ziggy Awad and Ryan Porch each tallied goals in the first half and junior Tanner Williams added an insurance goal late in the game to give Evergreen a 3-1 scrimmage win over the University of the Fraser Valley on Saturday afternoon. The Geoducks return to action on Sunday when they face the University of British Columbia in another scrimmage at Geoducks Pitch. First kick is scheduled for 1:00 PM.

ARLINGTON, Wash. – The Oly Town Artesians scored three goals in less than two minutes in the fourth quarter and Matt Stalnik’s strike with 12.5 seconds left broke a 6-6 tie and handed the Artesians a 7-6 win over the Arlington Aviators in Western Indoor Soccer League action on Saturday night. Wille Spurr and Greg Wolfe each recorded a brace and the Artesians moved into sole possession of second place in the WISL with the win.

TUMWATER, Wash. – Matt Stalnik’s hat trick and a pair of goals from both Greg Wolfe and Nate Salveson led the Oly Town Artesians to the first win in franchise history, a 10-8 victory over the Wenatchee Fire on Saturday night at Olympia Indoor Soccer.

In a brutal first fifteen minutes that saw four blue cards issued to the two teams, Matt Stalnik started the scoring for the Artesians midway through the first quarter with a power play goal on an assist by Luke Chouinard. PREVIEW: Artesians Host Second Place Fire Saturday Night

TUMWATER, Wash. – The first two Western Indoor Soccer League Players of the Week square off on Saturday night when the Oly Town Artesians (0-1-0) host the second place Wenatchee Fire (1-0-1) at 6:00 PM at Olympia Indoor Soccer.

The Artesians’ Willie Spurr was named Player of the Week for games played on November 22nd. The Evergreen State College junior scored two goals in a loss against the Tacoma Stars and etched his name in the Oly Town FC record book by recording the first goal for the club in league play.

“The indoor game really puts his unique talent and athleticism on display,” Artesians head coach Nate Salveson told the WISL. “Even playing against one of the league’s top defenses he was able to score a couple of nice goals and was dangerous all night.”

I took an extended break from Oly Sports while we prepared for the Oly Town Artesians opener. Now that it is over, Oly Sports will be back up and running, or at least should be.
