Today (3/20): play ball?
One day after the first passable day of the spring, the weather is once again wreaking havoc with the schedule. Today and Wednesday’s scheduled doubleheaders between Saint Martin’s and Northwest Nazarene’s softball teams have already been cancelled and I’d describe these high school baseball and fastpitch games as questionable to doubtful…
High school baseball
Centralia @ North Thurston – 4:30 PM – Postponed to Saturday
Bonney Lake @ Timberline – 4:00 PM
High school fastpitch
Tumwater @ River Ridge – 4:00 PM
North Thurston @ Black Hills – 4:30 PM
The weather won’t stop these 2A EvCo soccer games though…
Aberdeen @ River Ridge – 7:00 PM
W.F. West @ Tumwater – 7:00 PM
Monday scoreboard: they played ball!
High school baseball
Olympia 7, Timberline 4
Northwest Christian 4, Ocosta 3 – 8 innings
North Thurston 5, Tumwater 3
Centralia 6, River Ridge 3
Leo Valenti went 2-for-2 with a homerun and two RBI for Olympia in their 7-4 victory over Timberline on Monday. Timberline was led by a 3-for-4 day from Ty Gartner. Nick Mailhot struck out nine batters and drove in the game winning run in the eighth inning for Northwest Christian in their 2B Pacifiic League opener against Ocosta. North Thurston was led by Charles Vaughn’s 2-for-3 and two RBI day in the Ram’s victory over Tumwater. And Brad Wallace went 2-for-4 and River Ridge only surrendered five hits but it wasn’t enough to beat Centralia.
High school fastpitch
Olympia 8, Capital 1
Gig Harbor 4, Timberline 0
Tumwater 23, North Thurston 6
Aberdeen 11, Black Hills 1 – 5 innings
W.F. West 15, River Ridge 4 – 5 innings
Nikki Schroeder gave up just six hits and Megan Goodman and Hailey Hull drove in five runs between them in Olympia’s defeat of Capital. Black Hills and River Ridge were both run ruled in their season openers.
Boys soccer
North Thurston 1, Yelm 0
South Kitsap 1, Olympia 0
Nick Salazar’s breakaway goal in the 33rd minute was enough for North Thurston as Taylor Kirkland saved eight shots and posted his first shutout of the season in their 1-0 victory over Yelm.
Today (3/19): Play ball!
Looks like we should finally have decent weather for today’s slate of high school baseball games. Accuweather is predicting showers around noon but hopefully the tarps are on the fields and it won’t be enough to wipe any of these games out…
Mark Morris @ Tumwater – 4:00 PM
Timberline @ Olympia – 4:00 PM
Ocosta @ Northwest Christian – 4:00 PM
Shelton @ Capital – 4:00 PM
There is also one fastpitch game scheduled to be played in town today when Capital hosts Olympia at 4:00 PM.
And two boys soccer games round out today’s sports schedule. South Kitsap visits Olympia in a 4A Narrows League matchup. Game time is at 7:00 PM. And Yelm visits North Thurston in a non-league match at 7:00 PM at South Sound Stadium.

Today (3/16): maybe some baseball and fastpitch?
The forecast doesn’t look too bad and we just might get a baseball or fastpitch game in today. So here are some games that could possibly be played today. Timberline secured some turf so at the very least they should get their game in today.

Wednesday scoreboard: Navigators, Bears win
About the games on turf fields in Lacey, the high school fastpitch and baseball teams were able to play their games today, but the big boys from Olympic College and Lower Columbia were rained out. What gives? I don’t blame them one bit, it was nasty.

The spring sports season gets going in earnest tonight and it looks like even this snow won’t stop the fun. Here is the schedule in town as far as I can tell. Of course, all softball and baseball games could easily be canceled…

Saint Martin’s had two more comeback wins on Saturday before losing the final game to Montana State-Billings and are now 7-13 overall and 3-1 in the GNAC, good enough for second place behind Western Oregon. In the first game, the Saints scored two runs in the bottom of the 10th on an error by the Yellowjackets catcher on a Chaz Ferreira bunt and in the second game, down 7-4, the Saint scored five runs in the sixth inning and held on for the victory.

Tough day for Saint Martin’s who dropped two to the Yellowjackets and fell out of first place in the GNAC. Timberline graduate Annaleisha Parsley picked up the win for the Yellowjackets in game one. Morgan Klemm went 4-for-8 in the doubleheader to lead the Saints.

Today (3/10): Saints and Yellowjackets continue, boys soccer kicks off
The Saint Martin’s/Montana State-Billings softball and baseball doubleheader extravaganza continues on Saturday and even includes some extra baseball from a third game. It all starts at 11:00 AM at the SMU baseball field when the Saints and Yellowjackets continue their 2-2 suspended game from Friday afternoon. It then continues with a doubleheader at both the baseball and softball field with first pitch for both games scheduled for 1:00 PM. Weather may move the baseball games to the RAC, which is a good bet since it is currently pouring.
Boys soccer kicks off around town today with a handful of games. At South Sound Stadium are a fun pair of alumni games. The Timberline boys play Blazer alumni at 3:00 PM and North Thurston plays their alumni at 7:00 PM and there will be a 21-and-0ver alumni after party at O’Blarney’s following the games.
Black Hills and Capital also kick off their seasons on Saturday with a 2:00 PM game at Black Hills High School.

In game one of today’s doubleheader, Saint Martin’s took a 7-0 lead before MSU-Billings scored eight straight runs to take an 8-7 lead in the eighth inning. But Chandler Tracy doubled in two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning and freshman Zach Carter pitched a scoreless ninth inning and the Saints came away with another comeback victory, 9-8. Tracey went 4-for-4 in the game with a triple and two doubles. The second game was tied 2-2 when darkness forced the game to be postponed until 11:00 AM on Saturday morning.

Saint Martin’s freshman Sam Munger shut down the potent Billings offense pitching a five hitter in a 2-1 Saint victory in game one of this important GNAC weekend series. The Saints scored both of their runs in the first inning on an infield error and held on the rest of the way for the victory. In game two, the Saints held a 2-1 lead after four innings but couldn’t hold on losing 5-3. The Saints are now 7-2 in conference while the Yellowjackets are right behind them at 7-3.

Unofficial score as it is coming from a Twitter user that was a little unsure about the final. Will updated when I see something official.
