Saint Martin’s 12, MSU-Billings 3 – Recap from SMUSaints.com
The 23rd ranked Saint Martin’s softball team secured their second straight 30 win season with an 18-15 abd 12-3 doubleheader sweep of MSU-Billings in rainy Montana.
Game one saw the Saints take a 10-0 lead before surrendering nine runs in the fourth inning and six more over the next two innings and the Yellowjackets took a 15-13 lead into the seventh inning. But Lacey McGladrey’s two run bomb in the top of the seventh gave the Saints a 16-15 lead and they would tack on a pair more and held on for the win.
McGladery led the way for the Saints going 4-for-5 with three runs scored and three RBI. Sam Munger went the distance and picked up her 15th win of the season despite giving up 13 earned runs.
More last inning heroics followed the Saints in game two. The two teams were deadlocked at three before Joselyn Eugenio’s three run homer in the fifth inning broke things wide open. Aubree Pocklington capped off the inning with a three run homer of her own to give the Saints a 9-3 win.
Saint Martin’s moved to 30-11 overall and 12-4 in GNAC play and with Simon Fraser idle, the Saints jumped into first place in the conference.

Oly Rollers 142, San Diego Starlettes 57
The Oly Rollers jumped out to an early 46-6 lead on the San Diego Starlettes and never looked back taking the rematch of the 2012 USARS Championship game 142-57. The traveling Starlettes were playing their third bout in two days but managed to stay closer than their 181-35 loss to Oly in December.
Today (3/31): Oly Rollers host Easter derby doubleheader
The Oly Rollers host doubleheader derby action tonight when they welcome San Diego Roller Derby to Skateland! The Oly Rollers USARS squad will take on the San Diego Starlettes and the Puget Sound Outcasts will take on the San Diego AfterShocks in a men’s roller derby bout. This is the first Oly Rollers USA Roller Sports bout since the they won the inaugural USARS Championship in Fresno in December and it is a rematch of the final game between Oly and San Diego.
Historically, Oly has skated under Women’s Flat Track Derby Association but the USARS has stepped into the roller derby game by featuring a rule set that is different from WFTDA rules and has addressed some of the concerns that have been raised about strategies that have slowed down and made WFTDA games extremely lopsided affairs. One of the biggest differences is that the lead jammer status (who can score, more or less) can change hands mid jam so it encourages more speed and movement.
It is debatable whether or not the USARS rules are, in fact, better than the WFTDA rules but Oly is playing both rule sets this season and has made some noise that they would consider abandoning the WFTDA and going full USARS. That would be a huge move in the roller derby world since Oly is considered one of the top clubs in the nation and would undoubtedly mean larger outfits around the country would follow suit.
San Diego will be playing their third game during their Pacific Northwest tour this weekend. Yesterday they knocked off Underground Derby 137-94 in a morning bout at Skateland! under USARS rules and then beat Port Scandalous in the evening under WFTDA rules. Former Oly Roller Hockey Honey returns to town with her new squad.
Doors at Skateland! open at 5:00 PM and derby action gets underway at 6:00. Tickets will be available at the door for $20.

Saint Martin’s 4, Simon Fraser 1 – Recap from SMUSaints.com
Sam Munger and Taylor Bakos combined to give up just six hits and one earned run in Saint Martin’s 9-0 and 4-1 doubleheader sweep of GNAC leader Simon Fraser. Munger also hit a home run in game two, a solo shot in the first, and drove in another run in the fifth. Joselyn Eugenio went 4-for-6 in the doubleheader and drove in three runs and Christina Demar hit a home run in the second inning of game one.
The wins move the Saints to 17-9 overall and 8-4 in conference, just a half game behind the Clan. Munger’s third shutout of the season moves her record to 8-5 and she lowered her ERA to 2.02. Bakos, meanwhile, is now 9-4 with a 2.17 ERA.

Photos from the Oly Rollers’ Dropkick Donnas bout with Bellingham Roller Betties’ Blunt Force Trauma. The pictures aren’t great, admittedly, because I’m still struggling with the lighting in Skateland! so I tried some different settings that often did not work. I also had my two year-old with me limiting where I could be to take pictures. Still, there are some fun ones in here.

The Dropkick Donnas led from wire to wire knocking off Bellingham’s Blunt Force Trauma 359-208 to kick off the Oly Rollers’ 2013 season at Skateland!
The bout was slowed down considerably by the the two teams and on-track officials as they seemed to be trying to adapt to new rule changes implemented by the WFTDA for this season.
