Thursday scoreboard: T-Birds no-hit Hawks; Wolves, T-Birds pound Lacey

High school baseball

Tumwater 2, River Ridge 1
Aberdeen 3, Black Hills 1
Wilson 5, Capital 2

Tumwater Freshman Elijah Hill and Garrett Terrell combined to pitch a no-hitter in the T-Birds 2-1 win over River Ridge. Justin Graham went 2-for-3 and drove in both of Tumwater’s runs in the third inning.

Black Hills 19, River Ridge 8
Tumwater 12, North Thurston 2

Black Hills pounded out 28 hits in their 19-8 trouncing of River Ridge. Mackenzie and Lexi Tarrow combined to go 8-for-12 with seven RBI.

Tumwater’s Kierstin Smith pitched six innings, giving up just one earned run while striking out nine and went 3-for-4 with four RBI in the T-Birds’ 12-2 win over North Thurston. Alyssa Ubrun went 4-for-4 with an RBI for Tumwater.

Aberdeen 3, North Thurston 2 – Aberdeen wins shootout 5-4
W.F. West 2, Black Hills 0

Connor Sigmon, Kevin Weyand and Tyler Herbert each scored for Tumwater in their shootout win over 2A EvCo second place Centralia. The Tigers’ Prince Gunderson scored two goals but missed the go ahead goal on a penalty kick with less than four minutes to play.

Matteo Nertempi and Brett Curtis scored for Capital and Timberline respectively in their 3A Narrows League 1-1 tie.

North Thurston got goals from David Cregg and Bin Hasan but ended up in a shootout once again and came out on the wrong side to Aberdeen, 5-4.

Today (4/11): Blazers host Cougars; Wolves host Bearcats

Guess what, it’s raining. Surprise, surprise. So soccer takes center stage in town tonight with a pair of league games…

Saturday scoreboard: Saints split again; Rough day for local baseball

College softball

Saint Martin’s 7, Western Washington 3

In game one of Saturday’s doubleheader, the first four Saint Martin’s batters went 8-for-15 with six runs scored and four RBI including Megan Antonovich’s 2-for-3, two runs, three RBI game. Down 1-0, the Saints scored four runs in the top of the fifth and another three in the seventh.

In game two, the Vikings’ Stephanie Fox blanked the Saints for the second time in two days and extended her school record scoreless innings streak to 27 innings.

With the weekend split, the Saints are now 24-12-1 and 14-7 in GNAC play.

Saint Martin’s picked up three wins today in the CSU Stanislaus Tournament of Champions to run their winning streak to nine straight games. Sam Munger went 4-for-4 in the first game to drop Dominican to 2-26 on the season. In game two, Sara Bakos drove in the game winning run and Chaminade dropped to 9-17. And in game three, Munger pitched a complete game one hit shutout against the previously 33-6 CSU Dominguez Hills. The Saints ran their record to 18-8-1 and have an 8:45 AM date with CSU East Bay on Saturday before taking on CSU Stanislaus at 1:15 PM.

Olympia 1, Tumwater 1 (Oly wins 5-4 in a shootout)

Alec Davies scored two goals for Timberline and Ryan Erickson and Kasey French each scored in Timberline’s 4-1 win at Tacoma’s Lincoln Bowl.

Bryce Joling scored Capital’s two goals in their 2-0 win over Yelm. Jakob Racimo posted the shutout for the Cougars.

In a battle of father versus son, the son (Bryce Winkler) got the better of the father (Bryan Winkler) as Olympia beat Tumwater in a shootout. Regulation ended tied 1-1 and Duncan Urban scored the deciding goal to give the Bears a 5-4 shootout victory. Devon Parman opened the scoring for the Beats with a goal in the 38th minute and Bradley Saner got the equalizer with just 2:48 left in regulation. Oly managed to keep the T-Birds’ Kevin Weyand off the board before he opened the shootout with a goal.

Black Hills braved the weather but perhaps wished they hadn’t. The Bearcats jumped out to a 9-0 lead before the Wolves got on the board with a run in the bottom of the sixth.
