Tonight (3/24): Fight night in Olympia

If you’ve parked your car in just about any lot in Olympia over the last couple weeks, you’ve either pulled a flyer off your windshield or seen a discarded one on the ground for tonight’s Northwest Fight Challenge XIII -Annihilation! Brought to you by the Academy of Brian Johnson, there will be 10+ MMA fights on the card at the former Apex Carting facility in Tumwater. Tickets are $25 or $50 for VIP, doors open at 6:00 PM and fighting starts at 7:00.

The Saint Martin’s baseball team continues it’s series with Northwest Nazarene today at The SMU baseball field. The two teams split yesterday’s doubleheader and will play another two today starting at noon. Capital grad Tommy Deboer will get the start in game one for the Saints.

Olympia hosts Shelton in a 4A Narrows League game at Ingersoll Stadium at 7:00 PM. Bring yourself a chair and a blanket and enjoy front row seating on the track.

Across town at South Sound Stadium, Timberline hosts Tumwater in a non-league game at 1:00 PM. The feel of tin on your bottom will make you long for dry rot and a closed grandstand and your own camp chair on the track.

Today (3/23): Saints baseball, Cougars versus Rams

It seems like it’s been forever since Saint Martin’s played a baseball game in town, but they are back today at SMU Field with great weather for today’s doubleheader against Northwest Nazarene.

The Saints come into the game at 7-19 overall and 3-5 in the GNAC. After a 3-1 start in conference they dropped a pair of doubleheaders at Central Washington and are now in third place. The Crusaders are 13-9 overall and 2-4 in the GNAC and are fourth in the conference. River Ridge alum Jon Matos is hitting .203 with one homerun for NNU. First pitch is at 1:00 PM today.

The North Thurston and Capital boys soccer teams each notched league victories on Thursday night and will square off tonight in a non-league tilt at South Sound Stadium.  Nick Salazar has scored two straight game winning goals for the Rams and Matteo Nartempi has scored three goals in his past two games. First kick is at 7:00 PM.

In high school baseball action, Tumwater hosts W.F. West at 4:30 PM and there are probably other makeup games scheduled that I have not seen on schedules yet.

Slideshow: Capital vs. Lincoln

This is my first go around with a brand new lens for my camera, so some of these pictures aren’t great since I was just trying to figure it out, but here’s the first slideshow in Oly Sports history – hopefully a regular feature. Capital beat Lincoln, 3-1.

Thursday scoreboard: Mets spins a gem

Sadly, this is going to be a more incomplete list than usual because I’m unable to find quite a few soccer scores from tonight. If you are a coach or have a score to report, please email me at olysportsblog@gmail.com. Anyway, here it goes…

Ling Hnair had North Thurston’s lone goal in regulation before Nick Salazar ended it with an overtime goal to give the Rams the 2-1 victory over W.F. West. Capital and North Thurston face each other in a non-league game at South Sound Stadium on Friday night.
