Northwest Elite Index ranked the top ten football uniforms in Washington State and gave Tumwater the #4 spot. But because #1 WF West has a gimmick gray-for-gray’s sake uniform and #2 and #3 go black-for-black’s sake, I automatically bump the T-Birds up to #1. – Link

Kameron Banister doubled three times and drove in five runs to lead the Olympia Athletics to a 13-4 win over the Nisqually Silvers in game one of a PSCL doubleheader at The RAC. JJ Nazzaro (Gardner-Webb) doubled, tripled, drove in three runs and stole two bases and Josh Moss (Saint Martin’s, Rochester HS), Anthony Kuntz (Saint Martin’s) and Austin Taylor (Centralia College) combined to allow four earned runs on seven hits for the A’s.

Jens Omdal (Houghton College, River Ridge HS) and Alex Bielaski (Saint Martin’s) each collected two hits and Bielaski and Cody Apilado (Olympic College) each drove in a run for the Silvers.

Ethan Kalen gave up one earned run on two hits with six strikeouts and Justin King pitched four scoreless innings in relief and the Hawks Prairie Cardinals knocked off the Lacey Saints 5-1. Cole Nagamine (Hawaii-Hilo) hit a two run homer in the eighth inning and Brandon Grimsley (Murray State College) went 2-for-4 and doubled in the first Cardinals run of the game in the third. Jeffrey Apigo (Skagit Valley College) scored the eventual game winner when Lucas Gately (Gonzaga) grounded into a double play in the fifth.

Mervin Rincon (Centralia College) went 2-for-4 with a triple and Chris McConnell (PLU) added two hits and scored the Saints lone run on a Jordan Potis (Centralia College, Northwest Christian HS) ground out in the fifth inning.

Adam Conley picked up his second win in a row last night allowing just one unearned run on two hits over seven innings in Jacksonville’s 8-1 win over the Tennessee Smokies. The Olympia grad is now 9-4 with a 3.41 ERA for Miami’s double-A affiliate. – Link

Joash Brodin was named the Atlantic League Player of the Week today after a week that saw him hit .429 (12-for-29) with three home runs including a walk off grand slam. The North Thurston alum drove in eight runs and stole three bases for the Long Island Ducks and now is second in the league with a .337 batting average and first in the runs scored with 62. – Link

Northwest Christian is looking for a new head baseball coach after Damon Ford announced today that he is moving to California. Ford spent three seasons at the helm of the Navigators after taking over for Don Heinze, who also moved to California. – Link

ConleyOlympia grad Adam Conley pitched a seven inning complete game shutout in game one of a doubleheader for the Jacksonville Suns on Sunday. The Miami Marlins second round pick out of Washington State in 2011 struck out four in the game and moved to 8-4 and lowered his ERA to 3.66 for the double-A Suns. Next up for Conley is the Southern League All-Star game in Jacksonville on Thursday. – Link

SPSCC men’s basketball added another Vancouver area player to their roster today. Aaron Landon signed Austin Bonds, a 6-1, 155 pound point guard out of Skyview High School. He joins Union’s Chris Williams and Bonds’ Skyview teammate Keegan Liebelt. – Picture

Travis Shaw (Saint Martin’s) went 4-for-5 with a triple, a home run, five runs scored and three RBIs to lead the Nisqually Silvers to a 14-5 romp over the Tumwater Brewers in game one of a PSCL doubleheader on Thursday night.

The first four batters in the Silvers lineup – Motoki Kawashima (Merced College), Shaw, Colby Fitzgerald (Bellevue University) and Alex Bielaski (Saint Martin’s) – went 9-for-19 with nine runs scored and nine RBIs.

Josh Snider (Yakima CC) went 3-for-4 with three RBIs for the Brewers.

The Olympia Athletics scored four runs in the first inning and two more in the second and never looked back in their 10-4 win over the Hawks Prairie Cardinals in the nightcap. Markus Hinkle (Western Oregon) and Chris Strain (Occidental College) each drove in a run and Stephen Mahnken (Saint Martin’s) drove in two more in the first inning. Andrew Lauritzen (Edgewood College) drove in another run and scored on an error to give the A’s a 6-1 lead through two.

The Cards came back with three runs in the third but the A’s answered back with four runs in the next two innings to put the game away.

Strain went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and Joe Crunkilton (Western Nevada) drove in a pair of runs for the A’s. Brandon Grimsley (Murray State College) and Cole Nagamine (Hawaii-Hilo) each collected two hits for the Cardinals.

Oly_RollersThis news is almost a month old, but the Oly Rollers confirmed to the Derby News Network that they will not be competing in the WFTDA post-season this year after winning The Hydra in the first year they were eligible in 2009 and then three straight second place finishes in 2010, 2011 and 2012. Oly did not schedule enough WFTDA sanctioned events to qualify for the post-season opting to schedule more USARS events this season. – Link

North Thurston alum and ex-US National Team and Seattle Sounders goalkeeper Kasey Keller will join the US National Team as a goalkeeper coach for the remainder of the CONCACAF Gold Cup. – Link

Timberline 2009 graduate and current Eastern Washington linebacker Ronnie Hamlin has been named to the Buck Buchanan Award Watch List, one of 20 nominees for the outstanding defensive player in the Football Championship Series regular season. Hamlin is a senior at Eastern but could be granted a sixth year after missing both 2009 and 2010 with injuries. He has played in 25 games since and had 136 tackles last season. – Link

Another Timberline grad, Cameron Peck, continued his hot 2013 summer taking home the PNGA Men’s Amateur Championship with a 7 and 6 win over Hans Reimer in Bandon, Oregon. Peck also won the Washington State Amateur earlier this summer. – Link
