Tonight (2/22): Hawks face Hornets in Kent; Tumwater hosts regionals doubleheader
The River Ridge girl’s basketball team travels to Kent tonight to face White River in the regionals round of the state basketball tournament. The Hawks are the only Olympia area girl’s basketball team remaining in the state tourney.
The Hawks are 18-5 this season and feature Jazzlyn Brewster and her 15 points per game. Rebecca Stevenson and Savannah McGill have emerged late in the season as options in the paint. After knocking off Washougal 54-38 in the first round of districts, River Ridge fell to #1 ranked Mark Morris 60-48 and faced two straight loser out games against Hockinson and Centralia. A 60-44 win over the Tigers moved the Hawks into the regionals round.
White River fell to Sumner in the West Central/SW Bi-District championhip game and are 21-4 this season. SPSL MVP Kennedy Hobert leads the Hornets but according to The Olympian, she is struggling with a wrist injury that limited her to 0-for-11 shooting in the district title game.
Tip-off at Kent Meridian High School is set for 6:00 PM.
