Thursday scoreboard: Saints go cold against Seattle Pacific and Anchorage
Men’s basketball
Seattle Pacific 60, Saint Martin’s 46 – Recap from SMUSaints.com
Saint Martin’a led #5 Seattle Pacific 23-21 at the 6:30 mark in the first half but it would be the Saints last basket of the half as the Falcons took a 33-23 lead into the locker room with a 12-0 run. The Falcons extended their lead to 23 points before the Saints rallied to get within 12 points with three minutes to play. But it was too little, too late and Seattle Pacific moved to 20-3 overall with a 60-46 win at Marcus Pavilion.
Roger O’Neill scored 12 first half points but the Falcons defense buckled down and O’Neill managed to hit just one free throw the rest of the night to finish with a team high 13. Will Bond scored 10 points including the three pointer late in the game that cut the SPU lead to 12 and Brady Bomber dished out seven assists.
David Downs scored 20 points for the Falcons including his 1,000th point of his career and 6’4″ guard Riley Stockton pulled down 15 rebounds. SPU killed the Saints on the boards outrebounding them 48-23 scoring 21 second chance points. The Falcons also went 19-of-30 from the charity stripe on 21 SMU fouls. Seattle Pacific was called for just nine personal fouls.
The Saints fall to 8-15 overall and 4-11 in GNAC play.
Women’s basketball
Alaska Anchorage 76, Saint Martin’s 58 – Recap from SMUSaints.com
Chelsea Haskey scored 22 points including 18 in the second half as the Saints shot 50% from the field in the final 20 minutes but were unable to overcome a 21 point halftime deficit and fell to Alaska Anchorage 76-58 in Alaska.
