Tonight (1/7): SPSCC doubleheader; Blazers host Wolves

clipperlogoThe South Puget Sound Community College basketball teams play their first home doubleheader of the season when they host Green River tonight. The women start things off at 6:00 PM and the men will follow at 8:00 PM. The two teams have played just three games total at SPSCC this season and haven’t played in Olympia since a women’s game on December 8th.

The SPSCC women come into the game looking to get things turned around after a 115-18 loss on Wednesday night to Clark. In that game, the Clippers made just five field goals, turned the ball over 35 times and were out rebounded 41-18. But they have a chance to wipe that bad taste out of their mouth right away facing off with the 1-9 Green River Gators, who fell 91-34 to Centralia on Saturday night.

Meanwhile, the men come into the game at 3-7 overall and 0-1 in the NWAACC West region and face a Green River squad that is 9-4 overall and 1-1 in region. The Clippers dropped a 73-64 decision to Clark last week. Scott Ewing and Olympia’s Jamey Smith average 17.3 and 17.2 points per game but were held well under their average by the Penguins. Timberline’s Kole Podowicz stepped up and scored 25 points and is averaging 15 points in the four games that he has played this season. Green River is led by Kortney Darby’s 17 points and seven boards per game.

In the lone high school hoops action tonight, the Black Hills girls travel to Lacey to take on Timberline in a non-conference game. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
