Friday scoreboard: T-Birds shutout Wildcats, move to semis; Saints fall in Monmouth

Tumwater 21, Archbishop Murphy 0
Behind two Jayden Croft to Andrew Brown touchdowns, Tumwater moved won their 11th straight game and moved into the 2A state semifinals with a 21-0 win over Archbishop Murphy at Tumwater Stadium.
The T-Birds struck first when Croft hooked up with Brown on a 36 yard touchdown pass on the second play of the second quarter. The two hooked up again on a 25 yard touchdown pass later in the second quarter to take a 14-0 lead into halftime.
After a scoreless third quarter, the T-Bitds picked up a Wildcats fumble and Korye Treko took it back 15 yards and salted the game away sending the T-Birds into the final four to face the winner of tomorrow’s Prosser/Othello game next week at the Tacoma Dome.
Men’s basketball
Emporia State 64, Saint Martin’s 56 – Recap from ESUHornets.com
Emporia State held Saint Martin’s to just 18.8% shooting in the second half and 31.1% for the game and knocked off the Saints 64-56 on the first day of the WOU Phoenix Inn Shootout in Monmouth, Oregon. Evan Coulter led the Saints with 15 points and Roger O’Neill chipped in ten in the loss.
The Saints and the Hornets shot an identical 13-of-29 (44.8%) in the first half and Saint Martin’s took a 31-30 lead into the locker room. But Emporia State shot 40% in the second half including five three pointers while the Saints made just six field goals total. Despite the poor shooting, the Saints were within three points with 3:38 left to play before they were outscored by the Hornets 9-4 the rest of the way.
Emporia State’s Kaleb Wright led all scorers with 17 points and the Hornets moved to 3-0 on the season. The Saints fall to 1-2 and will take on Notre Dame de Namur tomorrow at 5:15 PM in Monmouth.
