Tuesday scoreboard: Hawks, Rams to regionals, Geoducks done
Women’s basketball
Corban 60, Evergreen 48
Sophomore Danielle Swain had 16 points and Sami Clark added 11 but it wasn’t quite enough to get the 8th seeded Evergreen Geoducks past the 10th ranked team in the nation, Corban College, in the first round of the Cascade Collegiate Conference playoffs. Swain, a Black Hills alum, did set single season team records for blocks and rebounds in the game. The Geoducks finish the season with an overall record of 7-21 but played better than their record indicates. They will return their entire team next season except for one senior, Mele Rich.
Girl’s basketball
River Ridge 56, North Thurston 54
North Thurston cut a 16 point deficit and tied the game at 52 but River Ridge scored the next four points and held on to win, 56-54 securing a berth into the state regionals for the ninth straight season. Next up for the Hawks is a Saturday afternoon meeting with Port Angeles At Mt. Tahoma High School in Tacoma. The Rams season comes to an end.
Boy’s basketball
North Thurston 62, Washougal 56
A good Washougal crowd that made W.F West High School in Chehalis feel like a home game wasn’t quite enough to push the Panthers over the top to beat North Thurston on Tuesday night. The Rams got 30 points (or more) from senior Ben Broeker and made their free throws at the end to move into the state regionals for the first time since 2007. The Rams will play White River on Friday night at Mt. Tahoma.
