Sunday scoreboard: Rough Canadian trip for Saints

(RECAP FROM SMUSAINTS.COM) BURNABY, B.C. – The Saint Martin’s men’s soccer team ran into the fourth-ranked scoring offense in Division II men’s soccer on Sunday afternoon as Simon Fraser picked up the 6-0 victory over the Saints.

Entering the match SFU was averaging close to four goals a match and scored twice in the first 13 minutes to take a 2-0 lead. First in the eighth minute as Michael Winter finished Alex Rowley’s corner kick and then again five minutes later as it was Matt Besuschko who scored off of Rowley’s corner.

The Clan added a third goal in the first half in the 27th minute; a one timer by Adam Staschuk off the cross by Ryan Dhillion to take a 3-0 lead.

SFU added three more goals in the second half as Ryan Dhillion and Justin Wallace connected twice. Dhillion’s goals were separated by just 30 seconds. Wallace scored a goal of his own in the 61st minute to finish off the scoring for the Clan.

Saint Martin’s tallied six shots in the match putting two on frame as Blake Moreland recorded a pair of shots for the Saints. Simon Fraser finished the match with 29 shots (14 on goal). Eric Owen made six saves in net while JJ Olson made two.

The Saints (2-8, 1-5 GNAC) will return home after their long road trip to host #3 Seattle Pacific on Saturday, Oct. 6th at 3:00 pm.
