Sunday scoreboard: Saints split in Canada; Bielaski walk off homer tops Central; Oly Rollers gas Toxic 253

Despite giving up four runs in the first three innings of game one, Sam Munger picked up here 17th win of the season in #21 Saint Martin’s 8-4 victory over Simon Fraser in Burnaby, British Columbia. Down 4-2 through five innings, Taviah Jenkins tied the game with a two run double and then scored the eventual game winner on a passed ball in the sixth. The Saints tacked on three more in the seventh to secure their 32nd win of the year.

In game two, The Clan’s Kelsey Hawkins spun a gem allowing just three hits in a 2-0 shutout. Taylor Bakos went the distance for the Saints allowing just two runs in the third inning and fell to 13-7 this season.

Saint Martin’s is now 32-13 and remains in first place in the GNAC at 14-6, one game ahead of Central Washington. The Saints return home on Saturday with a pair of games against Northwest Nazarene and another pair on Sunday against Central.

Saint Martin’s 5, Central Washington 4 (10 innings) – Recap

Alex Bielaski hit a solo walk off home run in the tenth inning to lead Saint Martin’s to a 5-4 win over Central Washington in game one today’s doubleheader. Bielaski led the way with three hits as the Saints picked up just their fifth win of the season. Anthony Klonitsko picked up the win working 2 2/3 scoreless innings in relief. Brad Banker got the start for the Saints and allowed two earned runs over 6 2/3 innings.

Game two of the doubleheader was suspended in the top of the fifth inning with Central Washington leading 5-3. The two teams will resume their game tomorrow at 1:30 PM.

With a 27-24 loss to Corvallis, Budd Bay took second place at the Pacific Northwest Rugby Football Union championships in Bend, Oregon. The Buffaloes move on to the Pacific Coast Division II playoffs in San Francisco on May 4th and 5th.

Budd Bay thoroughly dominated the Seattle Quake winning 60-5 (unconfirmed) on Saturday afternoon at Rainier Vista. Surprisingly, the weather held out until just minutes after the final whistle when it started pouring. Sadly, no extremely muddy pictures. But thankfully, I stayed mighty dry.

Saint Martin’s moved to 5-0 at the Tournament of Champions in Turlock, California with a 5-1 win over CSU-Monterey Bay, a 7-6 extra innings win over Academy of Art and a 5-1 win over Chico State. The Saints are now 25-10 on the season and will take on Chaminade at 1:00 PM in the semifinals.

The hearty souls that don’t play ball and stick games will be out today and tonight in this awesome weather starting first with some rugby at noon and continuing with 2A EvCo soccer this evening.

The Budd Bay Buffaloes men’s rugby team isn’t afraid of a little rain. They will take on the Seattle Quake at Rainier Vista beginning at noon. It should be a muddy good time.

In boys soccer action, the first place Aberdeen Bobcats come to town to take on third place Capital at Ingersoll Stadium. The Bobcats are 5-0 in conference and undefeated overall while the Cougars sit at 3-2 in EvCo play. First kick is set for 7:00 PM.

And the Pioneer Cup also kicks off at 7:00 PM at Tumwater Stadium. Tumwater comes into the game struggling to regain their form from last season and sit at 2-2 in conference. Black Hills has just plain struggled and are 0-4 and in last place.

Today (3/30): Saints softball hosts NAIA #10 squad; Rams hope to continue amazing week; Budd Bay Rugby

Saints_logoDespite the beautiful weather, it is a light day of sports here in the Olympia area. Just a handful of games on the docket including the streaking Saint Martin’s softball team, North Thurston baseball and Budd Bay Rugby.

The Saint Martin’s softball team looks for their 20th win of the season today when they face the NAIA’s Corban University in doubleheader action at 12:00 PM at the campus softball field. The Saints are 19-9 this season and are coming off a non-conference sweep of the NAIA’s #24 ranked Concordia yesterday. Today they face a #10 ranked Corban squad that is riding a 17 game win streak.

Also at 1:00 PM, the North Thurston baseball squad takes on Sumner in non-conference action. The Rams have had quite the week against the Tacoma schools knocking off Lincoln and Foss by a combined 42-1 allowing just two hits in three games.

And finally, at Rainier Vista Park, a day of rugby kicks off at 10:00 AM with Budd Bay Barbarians and Steelheads youth squad games leading up to the Budd Bay Buffaloes men’s squad game against the Battleground Bulls at 1:45 PM.

LaValla has started six games and played in nine of Stade Francais’ 12 games so far in the 2012-2013 Top 14 season. Stade Francais sits in 10th place at 5-6-1.

Quarterback Colby Schultz threw for 375 yards and six touchdowns in River Ridge’s dismantling of the Ridgefield Spudders at South Sound Stadium. The Hawks led 47-8 through three quarters before the Spudders scored 32 points in the fourth to cut the lead to just two touchdowns. The Hawks put their starters back in and Brad Wallace caught a 52 yard pass from Shultz to seal the deal. Wallace scored five touchdowns total, three receiving and two rushing. Wesley Coats also caught three touchdowns in the Hawks’ victory.  The Hawks are now 2-1 this season.

Whatcom 3, SPSCC 0

Willie Spurr and Mirza Memic each scored two goals and Kevin Flavin added another in Evergreen’s 5-0 win over Oregon Tech at Evergreen Pitch. The Geoducks out shot the Owls 29-6. Collin Harlow recorded the shutout to secure a weekend sweep for the Evergreen who are now 2-0 in the Cascade Collegiate Conference.

A game-winning header goal by CJ Chu with just 38 seconds left to play lifted Saint Martin’s to their first GNAC win of the season, 3-2, over the University of Sioux Falls. Dylan Gaydosh scored twice in the game, first in the 17th minute and then again in the 76th. Each goals were equalizers as the Saints fell behind 1-0 and 2-1. The Saints move to 1-1 after the first weekend of GNAC play.

South Puget Sound and Whatcom battled to a scoreless tie in the first half in Bellingham but the Orcas scored three goals in the second half to take home a 3-0 win and drop the Clippers to 0-6 this season.

The Saint Martin’s volleyball team hit the road and picked up their second win of the season with a straight sets victory over National Christian College Athletic Association member Walla Walla. Katy Ferguson recorded eight kills while Kristyn Ross had 17 digs and Halee Hernandez added 19 assists. The Saints picked up their first win of the season on Thursday when they knocked off brand new NCCAA member New Hope Christian in straight sets in Eugene.
