Kellan O’Neill uncorked a scorching shot along the ground from just inside the box in the 20th minute that beat the Tyee keeper to give Capital a 1-0 lead. Despite the early Cougars goal, the Totems were the aggressors from the beginning and eventually capitalized scoring three times in a 15 minute span to knock off Capital, 4-1, in the first round of the 2A state tournament at Highline Memorial Stadium in Burien.

Down 1-0 deep into the first half, Tyee finally broke through with the equalizer after numerous chances throughout the first 39 minutes. With just 1:19 remaining in the half, Osvaldo Lopez turned from the far right side and put a shot between three Capital defenders that found far side of the goal. The two teams went to the half tied at one apiece.

Tyee’s Hamidou Kante broke free on the right side 12 minutes into the second half and caught Capital keeper Van Soderberg out of position. Soderberg hammered Kante just inside the box and the Totems were awarded a penalty kick. Liam Maginniss buried the shot for what would prove to be the game winning goal.

A minute later, Kante scored an easy goal off of a deflected Eduardo Pelayo shot to give the Totems a 3-1 lead. Lopez scored another goal with just over five minutes left to play and finished out the game with a 4-1 win, ending the Cougars season.

Capital finishes the season at 11-8-1. The Cougars were the last boys soccer team from the Olympia area still alive.
